K[Image: QePfLeQ.jpg]I’m used to GSB blades coming wrapped just once in plain wrappers.  Today I opened a new box and the blades were double wrapped - once with a three-quarter plain wrapper and then an outside paper-type wrapper that said Gillette Silver Blue. See the picture with new (left) and old (right). The box packaging is slightly different as well. Oddly, the new double-wrapped blade seemed a bit harsh. But that might be in my head. Anyone here able to shed light on these two differing wrappings? Just curious.

All of the GSB blades that I've ever used (going back a number of years) have always been double wrapped.

Interesting. Mystery deepens?  I go back a year and a half and my experience has been the opposite.....

The inner 3/4 wrapper on the left — I don't recall seeing a gap like that on any brand of blade, and I have used Silver Blues (but a long time ago).
Is it unique to them?

These appear to be older blades as they are printed with ink. In recent years, the Gillette/PPI plant in Russia has converted their lines over to laser etching of the name on the top side of the blade. The back side is blank. Apparently, this was done to make it more difficult to counterfeit the blades as the laser technology is more sophisticated.

I believe the GSB blades I have are printed rather than etched. Perhaps your first batch of blades were the newer, etched blades. I do not know whether the new blades are double or single wrapped as the blades I have are older ones.

Ah-hah!  The double-wrapped are, yes, etched while the single-wrapped are printed.  However, the back side of the etched (the double-wrapped) are in fact, also etched, not blank.  Maybe, yes, the packaging changed and the single-wrapped blades were just older stock that I happened to get (probably from Maggards or from Pasteur's, I don't recall).

Interesting, the laser etched blades I have seen are only etched on one side. I do not have any of the etched Silver Blues, so maybe they are etched on both sides.

I took a look at Gillette Silver Blue blades at RazorBladesClub.com. There two listed-Old version for $29.95 per 100 and New for $26.95 for 100.

The Old is pictured as follows:

and the New shows up as follows:

I have some Old and these blades are among my favorites.

Does anyone know if there is any real quality difference between New and Old aside from price?

If I read the information on the RazorBladesClub website correctly (see my post above) and if they are correct, then you have flipped the New versus Old identity. It is the opposite--the New GSB blades have the number 5 with a picture of a blade on the bottom right and the Old label does not have that.
