I think IB is being generous to its loyal owners in offering this base plate while they get the complete razors ready. I think it's a fair thing to do to allow owners to get a deal over others who sold off their copy !

I participated in the DFS pass-around for the .68 GC. I found it too mild, but I enjoyed the shave and the quality of the product. All I want to do is purchase the complete set: Razor (with a handle) and the 2 plates. Today, the .84 plate is available, but the .68 razor and handles are sold out. I still want the complete set, but playing this "on again, off again" game is ridiculous, trying to assemble all of the pieces. I am a customer who wants the product, but the seller is making this awfully hard. Will Joe ever have all of the pieces available at the same time? If so, when? Before Christmas 2018, or should I plan for sometime in 2019? I do not mind waiting, but as a customer I deserve to know the time frame. This is a classic case of a business mis-managing customer's expectations through poor communication.

So basically you have to buy the original GC AND the .084 which is nearly $100 together---I'll pass

At that price point, why not just opt for a Rockwell 6S?

It seems clear enough to me that the standalone 84 baseplate is sold for people who already own the razor. Joe has said from the beginning that the more-aggressive plate was coming. It’s hardly his fault that people chose to sell. For that matter, it was already known from the passaround that the original version would be pretty mild.

The original version is usually sold out because for many, it’s EXACTLY what they wanted.

I suspect the GC will be offered as a complete 84 razor if there is a positive response from current owners. If the demand is there, I’m sure it will happen.

A Karve with 2 plates or a GC with both plates are very close in price (USD), and I’m certain the 316 GC costs more to mfg than the brass Karve. Both have advantages.

Sure, the Rockwell 6S is a great razor at a great price for what you get. Of course, it comes with three plates, and many people would probably be happy with just one plate (two settings), and the 2C is only offered with the mildest plate (which I’d never use).

I’ve now purchased a total of 4 plates for the Karve. It’s a fantastic razor, but it’s hard to argue that it is a better VALUE than the GC.

From my perspective, Joe listened to his customers and offered a new option. I really don’t see any reason to complain.

And yes, my GC has been sitting in a drawer, waiting. I knew the 84 plate was coming, so I didn’t sell. For those that did, well, that’s the choice you made.

For that matter, I ordered my Karve with the first two plates at the end of May, and got it two months later. I ordered two more plates mid-August, and they just shippped yesterday, a month later.

If you want a great value with no waiting, you can just buy a 6S (or Dart, Fatip, Variant, ...).

If you want the new hotness, it may involve waiting. Fact of life.

I bought the original GC head a couple of weeks ago when i finally was able to catch it in stock. I also knew that a more aggressive baseplate was coming but to be fair, I'd just assumed it was going to be attached to a cap plate and handle or at least a complete head. Now I will admit that I didn't read the fine print too closely and Joe may have been specific that when the .84 was coming it would be ONLY the baseplate and not the complete razor head. Its become common to refer to a razor's aggressiveness by its baseplate while you're actually talking about the whole razor. I can see how people may not have had a clear understanding of what was going on. I guess I should have read the fine print and asked for clarification. Its on me. In equity, however, ...

I'm going to pass on this too. I sold my original GC due to it being too mild. Life moves on.

I'd have to disagree with this sentiment. I mean no disrespect to any of you Gents but, this is more bitching and moaning with a bit of sour grapes thrown in. And here's why....

1. Within 5-10 days of the original drop and release of the Gamechanger and the reviews started coming in, there were already mussings and a statement from Joe at IB that a more aggressive plate would be in the works once the original demand was met and the demand for the razor had subsided. Remember? "Production will continue until everyone who wants one gets their GC". That from Joe himself.

2. 316L Stainless Steel passivated then produced and machined via CNC to exacting tolerances and finished with a semi polish (tumbled) look. For the price of $50-$55. Damn Straight. Unheard of. Go ask Charcoal Goods, Timeless, Wolfman, Raw Shaving and a few others to offer you a quality made product with value pricing. Good luck. By the way, only one has stepped up to the plate trying to offer a value razor with a reputation for producing quality, Blackland. And yes, it's still $50 more.....

3. Were all Gents here. Well, I'd like to believe we all are even though some can be classified as other and I'll leave it at that.
You make your own decision(s), no one forces anyone to hang on or get rid of a razor or a particular shaving product. There's always a choice, yours. To make a proclamation or even insinuate that IB is practicing or even exhibiting bad business practices is a joke. If they decide that they want to show a bit of loyalty or good will to those that decided to hang on to their GC's, good for them and so be it. Granted, the use of notification and announcements on product releases is a bit off and needs to be addressed but, they've also stated that it's best to follow them on social media sites to stay current and up to date. Again, your choice if you want to follow or not. Information is available on a continuous basis on these shave forums or social media sites. News travels fast and furious all over the web. The individual is responsible for their own due diligence.

4. If this was one of the higher end artisan producers that decided to do something like this, let's face it you wouldn't say a peep. Why? Because of exclusivity and we dare not second guess an artisan that charges in the $$$ hundreds for making you wait weeks, months and even years to acquire their product. Yet, you wait held over a barrel then wax poetic when it's in your hands bestowing it's virtues as the greatest thing ever invented since toilet paper. Come on, let's be real here.....

In essence, put your big boy pants on and just man up. Make your decision and live with it. As 86_foxtrot put it, life moves on. No need to put the blame elsewhere when it's all on the individual.....

With all due respect, I totally disagree! A serious manufacturer should not be in a position whereby his most popular razor is out of stock most of the time. One thing is a single "artisan" like Wolfman, another thing is a company like RazoRock. Look at Timeless, have you ever seen those razors being "out of stock"? THEY need to man up, not the customer! To me this is just frustrating and alienating potential customers.

Seriously???

They are always sold out because they are a bargain, and yes I say that even though I found the original too mild for my current preferences. If Joe keeps selling them as fast as he can make them, it means they are underpriced. He could jack up the price, but instead chooses to keep the price low and vows to keep churning them out as long as there is unmet demand.

I can only think of one other manufacturer who is constantly sold out but hasn’t raised the price, and that’s Karve.

Bless ‘em both. Personally, I am glad they choose NOT to raise the price to whatever the market will bear, and don’t mind waiting as a result. I’m not sure I would be so generous in their shoes.
