I decided for "_its and giggles" to purchase a shavette razor that took a full DE blade.  The razor came on Saturday.  After cleaning up some casting flash I loaded a blade into it.  After I saw the blade reveal, I thought oh hell no.  Just in case anyone is interested here are some pictures of the demon.

Treat it like a real straight razor.
I have one like that.just go easy.

Interesting, mobius. caleb31, what are your thoughts on this shavette, both advantages and disadvantages, as opposed to just using a regular DE razor. I don't recall ever seeing one that took a DE blade.

The primary disadvantage is for myself the weight and balance.
The advantage is not needing to break a de blade to load it.simply place in the razor and rotate when dull.

The disadvantage I see is the great amount of blade showing when seated. My feather is no where near that much even with the pro blades.

mobius -
I have a nice shavette that takes a half DE blade, and offers a reasonable amount of adjustment for exposure. If you would like to give it a shot, it is yours for the asking. PM me your address and I will ship it to you, no worries.

It is all stainless and folds up like a typical straight. It has a reasonable weight to it, being all stainless. Decent little shavette...

I agree - that looks like a little more than I would be comfortable with.

Ooh! Interesting. I just bought one on Amazon for 11 bucks plus shipping. I'm into shavettes these days and have a ton of DE blades. Nothing beats a DE blade for sharpness, IMO -- not even the wonderful Feather AC blades. Anyway, we shall see....  Party

Got my Equinox today and just had my first shave with it, using a fresh Indian Green: three passes + touch-up for BBS.

This is a damn fine shavette. Loading the DE blade is easy. The razor has a nice heft to it, and feels good on the face. Shavettes that take DE blades are as aggressive as they come, so a light and careful touch is essential. That said, at $11 this razor gives lots of bang for the buck.  Plus, my Feather DX now feels like a Tech. Big Grin

The Equinox may not win any beauty contests, but it has an undeniable steampunk charm.

Two thumbs up!  Happy2 Happy2
