Fluffy’s Curmudgeon Corner

Started a long time planned project. A dedicated rack for my straight razors. Gonna be three rows and 45 razor capacity. May thin the herd and go down to 30. We will see. I like the variety. But how many do I really need? I know it can be blasphemy to talk of such things around here. 
How it started. 

Half way done. Gonna finish it tomorrow. 
Red oak local. Unfortunately none of the mills around here do quarter sawn lumber. The grain could be nicer if so.  Even so it will look nicer when it’s sanded and oiled.

I can smell the sawdust! I spent many hours wood working with my Dad and brother in his school's wood shop. Got to know some teachers outside of the classroom and see my Dad being the student. Some Saturdays we hated it. But now I am glad to have spent the time.

I am loosing forward to more updates, Ken.

Finished the straight razor rack. 
Took longer than expected. I am happy how it turned out. Not perfect. With proper tools,  table saw and planer/jointer. It would have been easier. And the joints more exact. The jig I made up to rip the boards with a circular saw. Worked out to be about 95% as good as a table saw.

The two out of line razors. Are Japanese razors with covered tangs. So they have to be higher up for the magnets to hold them.

Looks Amazing Ken, well done......but I expected that from you knowing how you think things thru and plan well.

So no one else has asked yet so I'll bite, what's the piece to the left with the metal plate for? I could assume that is designed to slip behind something but I don't want to do that assuming thing

Hey Dave. Made a “needs touching up rack”  
If you look to the right of the rack on the wall. You’ll see it on top of my dresser. Easiest way I could think of to keep track of them.
