Fluffy’s Curmudgeon Corner

Been derelict in posting. 
Wednesday’s Shave was a Fatboy affair. Can’t remember the rest of the setup. Thursday night me and the gang were bouncing around in Daddy’s Girl. So scruffy is the word of the day. Got about four inches. Of wet snow. The kind that packs down and is slick as a slimy politician. 
Started sticking to the roads about 0130 Friday. Stopped snowing around 0630. We been hard at until now. 1000 getting my route plowed curb to curb. Casualties 10 tons of salt. One mailbox. One Subaru All wheel drive with accompanying  stupid owner of said vehicle. Not doing too bad for having been up for let’s see for 29 hours and counting. Hot shower and shave is going be nice this evening.

I like your co-pilots - I got my son a Baby Yoda to co-pilot him on his every 2 week 3 1/2 hour drive to and from his remote mine site in Northern Ontario.  Hes a huge Star Wars fan (no idea where he got that   ) and I figured he could use the company.  He usually calls us during the drive to help pass the time.  I cherish those calls.

I drive a small Subaru sedan. Tonight I guess no doing donuts in the parking lot!

Yea Sock puppet Bob I found on the way to breakfast at Bob and I’s usual place. the first snow after Bob  died from cancer. He was a good friend. That I could count on no matter how f’d up the weather got. He was a hard core snow partner. Year after year we got it done. And had a lot of laughs. I miss Ol Bob. So I talk to him off and on whenever I’m in my dump truck. Mini me was on the side of the road on my route a few years ago. And Alternative Skin Tone Barbie was rescued from on top of a trash can still in her box.  She’s a high maintenance broad. She annoys the hell out of Bob. That’s really her only redeeming quality.  Go a few days without sleep and you need a distraction to keep you from going postal. At least I do anyway.  

You have told us about Bob before, briefly, but it's good to hear again. Often hard to find a friend like that. As you two shared many laughs while working hard, I bet he's tickled that he can ride with you still, in spirit, and work on keeping AST Barbie in line.

Well Marko your sentiment is a good one. But I would respectfully counter. That it is better to have friends that judge you, even harshly. So if you are making, or getting ready to make a mistake. Pull you aside and tell you, "Hey don't be a dumbass".  Bob was a man that would tell it like it is. He rarely gave praise. And on the rare occasion that he did give you accolades. You took note. He most certainly had many people that really didn't like or understand him. He grew up in Montana. And PC was not even remotely part of his demeanor. 
The only difference between him and I for the most part. Was that I am usually able to filter my "outdated" harsh criticisms of situations. I can only imagine his reaction to the last two years. He's prolly laughing at all of us.  In my work enviroment thin skin is a terminal condition. Depending on the size of your mistake. Nicknames are created. Jokes are told and the half life of them is similar to uranium breaking down. I have noticed many of the guys we have hired recently that are younger. Say like under 30. Tend to have the worst time dealing with someone being critical of them. Many in the last 10 years or so. Have not stuck around too long.  But we aren't mean just to be mean. There is a purpose. Just like in the military. You don't have the time or luxury to coddle someone. Mistakes can have huge consequences. People can get crippled or killed around our trucks and equipment. Being in the road out in traffic step out from between trucks without checking and get run over.  My drill Sargent was anything but nice to me or my platoon. But he did get us ready be in the infantry.
