I’ve actually been in the Martin Marietta factory they built Flak Bait in We did a job for the GSA. The government uses it to store forms and documents. It’s huge. They ride bicycles inside to get around and pick the orders to send out. Massive pillars and 4 foot thick second floor. Wish I could have seen it in the heyday.
Very interesting, I just read the brief Wikipedia article. 1,000 holes! Those old birds could really take a beating. Some of the stories of various bombers from the European theater are amazing. I had a grandfather who was a mechanic in the Pacific support the B-25 bombers (I think that's what they were). He worked on some of Doolittle's bombers.
