I wanted to buy Feather AC SS for some time, pulled the trigger after seeing this post. I wish I bought it earlier.
I finished my first shave about an hour ago. In one sentence: my search for the perfect shaver is probably over!!
Few points:
1. I used Feather Pro Blades. These are really really smooth. People used to DE shaving with Feather blades may find it hard to believe, but these blades are really smooth.
2. I shaved about 25 times with my two straight razors, so it didn't take me long to find out the angle. The angle is a bit different, but all other aspects of straight razor shaving applies: slick lather, thin lather (I learned about this recently), good beard prep, no pressure, again no pressure.
3. I take pride in the fact that, in my 1.5 year journey in traditional shaving, I only saw blood twice: during my earlier days of DE shaving. I have never cut myself while using a straight razor, I nicked my finger while stropping once though. After reading all those stories about AC SS shavettes being bloodthirsty and all, I was really scared. Took out my never used styptic pencil. But no Cuts. No weepers. No nothing. As a matter of fact, I can't see myself getting into a bloody shave with this.
4. The right side of my neck is the most problematic area when it comes to shaving. I am one of those unlucky person whose beard direction raises the question: Really God?, Really?. Two sides of my face has no symmetry in terms of beard. On the right side of neck, beard grows into all possible directions. In fact, problems I had while shaving this area forced me into looking for alternatives of cartridge shaving, thus my plunge into all these disorders associated with wet shaving. After just two passes, my neck feels the smoothest in years.
5. The only thing (so far), I like more about a straight razor compared to this is the sound the razor makes. This one is not a singer.
6. The blade is really sharp. This razor might be soulless, but it can surely get the job done.
7. I have spent a good part of an hour watching Turkish barber shaving (suggest by Caleb the nice guy ). So paid extra attention towards stretching my skin today. I think that helped.
8. I wish the scales were a bit heavier. But that's okay.
If any of you are thinking about trying this razor, go ahead. You probably won't regret.
Happy Shaving
