Fine After Shave-Price Increase

Just wanted to let you know I saw a post on B&B last night that said starting 08/07/2017 Fine After Shaves will increase from $15 to $20.  It did not contain a source.  Thought I would check Fine's Facebook  account.  I'm not a member of Facebook so I cannot see everything but this is a message from yesterday stating this.  If you're thinking of getting some Fine AS might want to take advantage before the price hike.  Please confirm the info on Facebook or directly with Fine before making purchase to confirm the info.

Here's a little snip it from their FB page.

"Going forward we intend to fully leverage these same resources to produce even more great products, but the time has now come where our prices do need to increase to better match the value we are providing. This is not a decision we make lightly, but it is clear that underpricing our products is not a feasible long term approach. For this reason, effective next Monday, August 7th, the price of Fine Classic After Shave will be increasing to $20/bottle."

I wonder if other makers will follow their lead?

Underpricing? All it is is water, alcohol, fragrance and menthol. It has the least amount of ingredients of any aftershave out there. I mean, look at the ingredient list of something like Barrister's Reserve in comparison. Worth $20? I'd say yes. I like Fine aftershaves for the scents, but they don't compare skin care wise. I don't understand the reason for a $5 increase. A couple bucks maybe but not 5. Looks like I might have to re-up on American Blend and think about picking up the Lavender, L'Orange Noir and Platinum to round out the collection before the price hike.

I currently have 3 and I placed an order for 3 more as I don't think they are worth $20. I've been happy with the scents I've tried as the tend to last longer than others. Since I shave at night I like to use them in the morning before work as a light cologne and I don't have to worry about it taking over the room but they last long enough I can still catch the scent for a few hours.

I think the current price is reasonable for the same reasons noted in this thread....really nice scents but lacking the skin-care qualities of other makers. I have several Fine aftershaves and most do have a lasting quality that I enjoy. But I've also found a couple that didn't have that "lasting" quality...Italian Citrus and Platinum. Both of those smell fantastic but neither lasted more than an hour or so. Whereas, I'll pick up whiffs of Santal Absolut and Lavander for 4-5 hours after shaving.

Calling the price increase "Greed" is unfair. How many of us are privy to this company's costs and actual bottom line? None. If you think his product isn't worth the extra $5, don't buy it.

I think with the competition the increase is definitely going to cause less units being moved. Some very nice options out there for that kind of price point.

This pretty much sums everything up in a nutshell.  I agree with jaxstraww though and frankly I happen to like Razorock's stuff more than Fine's anyway so it won't make any difference to me anyway.

For us finance guys the books are an interesting chat. Raising prices to correct a failing financial statement makes sense but if the FS is weak because of bad management that is a different beast alltogether.

If other small artisans can make AS at a lower cost with more face feel the question becomes why can't Fine with a smaller ingredient list.

No increase to soap costs?

Not being privy to their FS I can only speculate but in my arm chair business owner voice I would have increased the price of the soap by a dollar or buck and a half and the rest on the AS. I think you minimize running off AS purchases by spreading the needed price increase across the entire product lines and not in line.

Unless you need to match manufacturers or really like their AS at $20 I can see a bunch of BOTB's pairing their soap with another AS maker.
