Any love out there for this razor?

Yup, its one of my top 3. Loaded with the Feather blades I find it efficient and comfortable. If you're looking for the thrill of life on the edge (literally) with lots of blade feel and potential for blood at any moment, this isn't the razor for you.

Well, I am not using mine any longer. As Marko said, it provides very smooth and comfortable shaves but I hardly reach a DFS with it. This may be due to a lack of patience from me: Feather ASD2 requires a specific shave angle e.g far more opened in comparison to most of razors. Besides, the finish is superb.

I love mine (which is still rather new to me). It's attractive and very well-built. Most notable, though, is the design of the head encourages just the right angle and exposure, leading to a mild but effective shave (the OneBlade pulls off a similar trick). With most other DEs, getting the angle wrong means irritation or nicks. With the Feather AS-D2, getting the angle wrong just means the razor isn't shaving. In other words, you're not punished for missing the mark. That said, the mark is not hard to hit: I had the angle down within my first shave with it.

Like the OneBlade and a number of other mild razors, "mild" here means skin-friendly, not ineffective. I get close, comfortable shaves with the AS-D2 pretty easily.

David : DE shaving since Nov 2014. Nowadays giving in to the single-edge siren call.

Love the ASD2. Quality kit and a great shaver. With minimal blade exposure/gap you need to get the angle right and maintain it but if you do, great shaves will follow.

It takes some hits in the community for being too mild but is solely a case of not maintaining that sweet spot as onethinline mentioned.

My findings are the same as yours, David. I've been using it exclusively for a couple of months, now, and am delighted with it... once I found the correct angle. Cretin that I am, I didn't glom onto it as quickly as you, but once learned, It's good to go. Couldn't believe how shallow of an angle it required.

I have not yet used it with the vaunted Feather blade, instead finding that it works well with a variety of blades, which surprised me. Tommorow morning I'll unwrap a Feather blade and expect that it will be at least as good or better than what I've used, so far.

Nicks and weepers have become a thing of the past, and as others have said, it will even tolerate a bit of pressure w/o messing you up. I waited until it reached $140.00 on Amazon and actually bought it for $136.00. I'd prefer it in polished, but that's more money just to satisfy my fetish for brightwork.

Two passes (WTG and XTG with touch ups ATG) and a near BBS shave everytime; a full BBS when my coordination and concentration are working well.

Great razor!

This is the best razor for me. I have tried a large number of different razors and decided to use the AS-D2 with feather blades exclusively since it gives me consistent shaves with little to no irritation on my neck.

I really wanted to be one of those guys that can use any razor depending on the mood, but the suffering was not worth it. I am selling off everything else except for my GEM Contour.

When the feather SE blades arrive I am going to try loading one in the GEM Contour to see how it performs. I figured part of the magic with the AS-D2 is the Feather blade so I wanted to try the Feather SE blade. This is partly inspired by the number of guys on here that like the Feather in the One Blade.

Will that spineless blade work in a GEM razor? I'm not familiar with the Contour, but I'm pretty sure that FHS blade will not work in other GEMs.

I do have an Ikon Shavecraft tech and it has a thirst for blood. It shaves close and well but have to go easy or else...I feel a slight burn at times without redness. I hope it shaves well and don't want buyers remorse. Thank you for your reply.

The Contour does not have the tabs on the sides of the lid and I read that some reports that it fits as is. There are a few other reports of requiring to put a spine on them to make then stay snugly in place. I'll report back my findings.
