I haven't tried Mystic Waters for many years.  Has their performance improved?

I've read a lot of folks have had trouble with MW. Seems like hard water tends to be the main culprit. But I've never had a problem getting good to great lathers from the few that I own even though I live in an area with hard water. The post-shave is really fantastic.

Hard water has never been a problem for me with Mystic Water Soap, either. To me, the type of brush used makes more of a difference. I have no problems when using a synthetic brush, but with natural hair brushes there have been some issues. (The issue can be alleviated simply by loading more product into the brush.)

That being said, Michelle has recently changed the formula a bit (to help make lathering easier). On the web site, “New formula” indicates which soaps have been changed over.

I loved MW Sweet Briar too but it burned my face.

Matsilainen , that's interesting. I hadn't thought about brush type being an issue as I use a synthetic brush about 95% of the time. I'll have to try some MW with a badger just to see how it goes.

On the other hand, the difference between using a synthetic brush vs. a natural hair brush is about a 50% improvement in lathering and lather quality.

(Disclaimer: Since I mostly use synthetics, I probably don’t adjust my lathering technique enough those times I do use a natural hair brush.)

Excellent idea! I just smelled the sample of Gratiot League Square that I have, and you are on to something there.

Tried my Shave Revolution Evolution HMW Silvertip with MW Sweet Briar Tobacco this morning. It was one of the worst lathers I've ever had.

After wringing out the brush and giving it one good shake, I loaded up for about 25-30 seconds. At that point, I could tell a difference from when I load with a synthetic, but I didn't think it was too bad. Then I tried to bowl lather. After adding a few drops of water, it just turned into more of a foamy lather. I still used it for my first two passes. The best thing I can say about that is, I at least had ok slickness. After the first 2 passes, I put a little Proraso cream into the bowl and re-lathered.

This was really perplexing for me as I had never had such a bad lather with MW. As a matter of fact, I consider it one of my top 3 soaps...both in terms of performance and scents. But at least i now have a much better understanding of when people say they have a hard time getting good lathers with MW.

Thanks Matsilainen for the info....I now know to always use a synthetic with MW.

BTW, I still paired it up with Gratiot League Square. Once I did, everything was right in the world

I often fail with MW soaps and natural hair brushes when I load from samples.

For full sized tubs, I don't have the problem anymore.

The Tuxedo is the way to go with Mystic Water, even with sample sizes.
