Favorite Single Edge blade?

Did you palm strop the blade?, that will smooth out the blades edge. Your shaves will get better. I'm getting smooth shaves from a Gem SS blade that has 6 shaves on it.

Yes, I actually leather stropped it. It didn't seem to make a difference. I used it again today and it just makes for an uncomfortable shave. I think I am going to give up on ever using an SE other then my Schick injector.

Try a fresh blade without stropping it. No one ever mentioned stropping it on leather.

I don't know of anyone who has successfully leather stropped a SS blade. The folks who do use the carbon steel blades.

It was something I saw on youtube. It was on the internet so I thought it was true.

Very understandable. Youtube has gems thrown in with the garbage. The garbage is 90% or more.

I once saw a gent giving a lesson on how to lather up with a brush using canned goop.

Edit: FWIW, today saw the 30th shave on my present SE blade.

Are you taking short or long strokes? I read your post and immediately envisioned you trying to shave with that razor using long DE type strokes. That won't work. Keep your strokes short and the tugging should stop. It isn't the same feeling as using a DE, so don't even try to compare them.

Actually I am using short strokes and have tried about everything I can think of including not stropping before shaving. It just leaves me with a very irritated neck and face. This was my second go around with SE's and they just don't seem to like me.

All I can say is that the first pass was a little uncomfortable. I have an extremely tough beard and I had two days growth. So the first pass just kind of tugged at it. The next couple of passes weren't as bad. I have heard that they get better after the first shave so I will give a few more shaves before I make a final decision.

So with such a coarse beard that a thick, rigid SE blade can't cut through just what are you usually shaving with when not trying out SEs?

I know everything I've heard says that the se blades should work better but they don't. I usually use Polsilvers or Rapiras in my DEs
