Favorite Single Edge blade?

Boy I hope that the GEM ptfe coated do better than the the Pace single edge just did for me. They came in the mail yesterday and I thought I would give them a try. I wish I hadn't. That might be the worst shave I have had in a long time. Not once did it feel like they were cutting my beard. I made three passes last one against the grain and I could still feel considerable stubble on my neck. I couldn't take any more tugging so I finished up with my Merkur slant. Never again.

Not all SE blades are intended for shaving. Many are only suitable for removing inspection stickers from windows. How do you tell the difference? The source and the description.

But I've got you covered for now. If you like them anyone here can tell you where to get more.

Yeah, I should have known better though. I got them off of Dorco's website. Someone else had posted positively on them and I thought I would give them a try.

I've never used an SE before and I was curious about what blades to get as well. Once I get these babies cleaned up it looks like I'll be ordering some GEM SS PTFE coated blades. Thanks! Jeff, Will (1morepasswill) gave me a British Featherweight as a gift and it is a very nice razor! I used it with a GEM SS PTFE blade and was very happy with the results.

Shaving with an SE like the Featherweight is a slightly different experience than using a DE but not so different that you should have any problem. Let us know how your shave goes when you try it.

Check out your local stores. One of them may stock the Gem Stainless Steel Blades.

Rite Aid has the SS blades. CVS has carbon steel. But you'll get a much better price per blade if they're bought in bulk.

You'll know carbon steel blades because on the spine is marked 009, Stainless blades are marked more logically with "Stainless" plainly visible.

I used a Gem Stainless blade with four shaves on it in my Gem Micromatic Bullet Tip yesterday and recieved a shave that was 99.9% bbs and irritation free. I bought the blades at my local Bi-Mart. They are in the black 10-pack dispenser and only cost me $4.99. If a blade last's a month like some guy's say I'll get almost a year out of a pack. I read on another forum that the Stainless Steel blades do have a coating on them to help keep the shave smooth and comfortable. I really like these blades.
