Any thoughts here?  I have both and I have to say that for me I find both of these razors wonderfully smooth and very aggressive cranked to the max.... I really enjoy them both.  I might argue that they are as aggressive as the r41 when both left wide open.  Curious as to others thoughts that have one or both??  Seems both get left out of the "Agressive discussion" when both can be plenty Agressive.

I would agree with you. I started wet shaving a little over 10 years ago and at that time I recollect a lot more buzz re: Gillette adjustables in general.

With the ebb and flow of the shaving community it seems like they are not generating the same level of attention.

I think part of the reason that the 2011 R41 is regarded as very aggressive is because of the blade exposure it has. That, combined with the fact that the blade is held relatively flat, can result in a harsh shave. And yes, it is also aggressive. The 2013 R41 is much more manageable because the blade exposure is less.

I agree with you that the other adjustables can also be pretty aggressive, but because of their head geometry they seem to be less so. I used to insist that a Merkur Vision was more aggressive than the R41, but nobody else agreed.

Regardless of all this, the Fatboy and Progress are among the smoothest, closest shavers out there. I've never felt the need for more aggression in a shave.

I prefer the Fatboy. I find it smoother during the shave. I much preferred the Progress to the Futur, which was too aggressive.

I have both too, I find the Fatboy to be more mild, even on it's most aggressive setting. The Progress is a great razor but in my eyes definitely more aggressive.
I tend to prefer mild razors paired with "aggressive" blades- if there is such a thing.

My two favorite razors. My fatboy has custom blade gaps two levels higher than normal and I use it wide open. My Progress is a short handle and I use it overclocked at 6.5 (1.5 second time around).

I just slightly prefer the Progress. It just seems a little smoother. I want to like my Fatboy more. It's plated brass, vintage, easier to use with the TTO. But the Progress still wins right now despite that.

My R41 is my number 3 razor.

I might be in dead on agreement with you in everything you just said.

They are just a different feel from my perspective. Having both, coated of course, I find the overall balance of the FB better than the Progress. Other than that I'd call it a dead heat on aggression.
