The original First Canadian soaps had silk fibres, according to the ingredients list (and lid).

This (Anointment) is a local brand that I bought at the Farmers Market. Those darks spots are chunks of flax seeds. Big chunks.
I don't know what they were thinking, and I wonder if they had anybody test it by actually shaving with it.
They also used the flax chunks in some of their bath bars, for exfoliation, I guess. It also came with a boar brush, one of those awful little ones you can buy on Alibaba for a dollar a pound.

Otherwise it was an okay and fairly slick soap.

It is still quite common for many artisan soap formulas to contain silk. Sometimes it will be labeled Tussah Silk, sometimes it will say silk protein, sometimes it will say silk peptides. The cocoon of silkworm contains 18 different kinds of amino acids. The composition is similar to that of human hair and skin. Thus, it is frequently used in hair and skin care products. When used in shaving soaps, it helps provide a "silky" shave and conditions the skin.

I still think it’s neat seeing some of the animal milks being used. When Dragonsbeard first came out using camel milk that was pretty mind-blowing, and there’s a Greek producer (Kepkinh) that uses water buffalo milk.

Hello Sir

I also use Camel hump fat in some of my soaps and Ostrich oil as well. I think that RayClem did a good job of explaining all about the butters and oils in Shave Soaps and Creams and I'll also add that there are a lot of what most would call exotic ingredients but are normally associated with high quality Skin Care products rather than Shaving products. I know I use a lot of them in my products. So besides all the butters, oils and milks that were mentioned if you look at my ingredient list on one of my newer F Base Shave soaps you'll see a bunch of Skin Beneficial ingredients that are not butters, oils, milks etc but ingredients more so associated with skin care products that address both the Epidermis and Dermis layer of the skin. My EOS Complex is one of those ingredients and it contains 36 separate ingredients within the complex.

Generally speaking mens knowledge of Skin Care ingredients like 4 or 5 years ago was at basically at a Neanderthal level and was pretty much non existent nor discussed when talking about when referring to men's shaving soaps but it's come a long ways in the last couple of years yet generally speaking men's knowledge of Skin Care ingredients is still not anywhere near womens knowledge at this time. I will also add that men know a lot more about shaving in general than women who are still using their plastic 5 blade cartridge and disposable razors and OTC shaving products. So it will be a good day for shaving when things balance out a bit.

My bath bar of choice is Caprina Fresh Goat's Milks Soap, and it works rather well for shaving with too. It feels much like Williams Mug.

Hello, thank you for bringing your brand to my knowledge! Do you sell samples or a sample pack?

I'm pretty sure one of our Russian members here who does some stuff with homelikeshaving (I think) sent me a soap sample before that was made with deer tallow.

Hello Sir

I don’t have samples nor sell them but very soon I’m coming out with a collection called Mixology and there will be 1 oz sizes that some may refer to as travel size or even a sample size. You can read more about it in my thread as I don’t want to go off topic.

Thank you!

Frank
