Yes when we release all the Vanilla Safi products officially on my website and at the vendors ( the products that they  have will vary from vendor to vendor but the complete line will be available on the ETHOS website and that would include the EDP
Which is a blend that is Vanilla forward but not just a straight Vanilla as all the other products are as I thought for a cologne most would want a little more than just Vanilla

Here are the Aromatics in the EDP below

Pure sugar cane alcohol, Madagascar Vanilla Bean Infused Vodka, Handmade Madagascar Vanilla Bean Infused Oil, Organic Vanilla Absolute, Vanilla CO2 Extract, Tonka Bean Absolute, Benzoin, Balsam of Peru Essential Oil, Atlas Cedarwood Absolute, Nutmeg Essential Oil.

Thank you for the inquiry

Frank

Interesting list of ingredients. Normally I would not look much at the ingredients of any of my shaving items, being it soap, after shave or fragrance. However, I just went through extensive allergy testing and one of the three substances they found I am allergic to was Balsam of Peru! I never even heard about it before and was wondering in what product it could be in, now I know it might be a part of a fragrance. Keeping my eyes open from now on (one of the others could be also in such products or food stuff, Cinnamal).
Hi rudyvey

So as far as Balsam of Peru. It is an Essential oil so not a synthetic and I hope you were tested using the essential oil because the difference between the Essential Oil and the Synthetic version would be huge as far as testing goes. So in the case of the EDP I’m making for the Vanilla Collection it is absolutely in the Aroma Blend only and at a very low level as I want the Vanilla to be front and center in the blend. As far as Cinnamal  goes most Amyl Cimmimal used in Perfumes are almost always a synthetic compound. Hexyl Cinamal is found in in Chamomile which you may already know. Hexyl Cinnamaldehyde naturally is found in Cinnamon trees, Camphor and Cassia so I’d stay away from anything containing those ingredients.

I will say that not always is someone who is allergic to an ingredient will be allergic to let’s say a Shave soap or Serum etc when mixed together with many other ingredients. I have had several people who are normally allergic to natural cinnamon like what’s in my two Bay Rums surprisingly not have an allergic reaction to the product and I’ll get messages saying I don’t know what you put in your base but I’m not having a reaction and I’m surprised. This has happened many times over the years so that’s why a sample is the best way to find out.

Very good and interesting topic.

Oh and you make some great brushes! The two you changed the knots for me unfortunately were lost in the fire including that white one which I got from Italy which was my favorite.

Best regards.

Hi Frank, quick question- how would you compare the performance of your tallow based shave stick to the non-tallow shave sticks? I have the bay rum tallow shave stick and I love it and I’m considering adding to my shave stick stable but you know, non/tallow?? Thanks Smile

Hi Mark

Ok so as some know I’m a very frequent in shower shaver as it seems like I’m always in a big hurry and only once in a while do I do a nice relaxing full shave with bowl & brush and one of my good razors.

So in my opinion and experience as a shaving enthusiast ( not a soap maker ) yes is the Tallow a bit better in performance but I honestly get great in shower shaves from the 3 different Roll - Ups in my shower. I do notice that with the Tallow I don’t have to make as many passes around my face so I’m using a little more and I’m not looking for a BBS shave in a shower but a nice DFS and I can get that from either one of them with no problems whatsoever and I’ll add if you remember before I made the Roll - Ups I had the round cakes that were called Face and Body bars. Well I have this one scent called Sweet Lavender and it’s my take on the old vintage Yardley Bar Soap and I happen to really like that scent ( had a good sized collection of the bath soap that was lost in the fire unfortunately) anyway there were like 2 bars of the face and body bars left in the warehouse and I took them home and yesterday I used it for my shower shave and all I can say is wow did I get some serious lather out of that. Used my in shower Proraso Boar which I love to use with the Roll -Ups and I was so taken back by the shave I got I had to call two of my shave customers/friends so now I have to make some Sweet Lavender Roll Ups.

The real secret to me using them is obviously either washing the face in or out of the shower and then rolling it all over the area you want to shave I first go in circles with it and then straight strokes up and down till I feel a good coating and by that time there’s a decent amount of lather on both the end of the Roll up and my hand so I take my brush and rub it on the tip of the Roll - Up and gather up as much as I can from the sides and my hands and then start to swirl my brush and then begin my painting ritual.  I’ve played with different techniques and that seems to work best for me. Oh and all that takes a minute or two before the razor touch’s my skin.

So as usual I had to right you a story to answer your question

All the best my friend!

Great answer!  Thanks Frank. Now I need a sweet lavender roll up too  Big Grin

I really like the roll up format. Even for a shave at the sink. I’m good with a DFS  most of the time too. I’m a recovering over passer. I now do two passes and a bit of touch up on the chin.

HAHA! Marko  Yep that' me 90% of the time I'm a two passer these days.. and the other day I had 5 days growth which is something I almost never do and that's when I pulled out the big dog razor and did 3 passes for a BBS...first total BBS I've had in a while as I don't shoot for it to often nowadays. Only when I go out and believe me that ain't often these days.  Dodgy

UPDATE:

To anyone trying to reach me by email that’s in the “ Contact US “ section of the website. The email was down and my thanks to one of my customers who has my phone number who let me know of the problem. It’s been fixed but it might take a couple of days to respond to all the emails I got while it was down. I’m trying to get the 4 vendors orders out asap and my assistant has been on a 2 week planned vacation so it’s all on me and I’m doing my best to get orders out and attend to my customers needs and requests.

Your patience is very much appreciated !

Thank you!

Frank

Ok so I’d like to hear from members that use or know ETHOS products on these questions.

1. So I have made in the past few weeks a large batch of the Tallow Shave Crème that’s not been scented and what’s great about this is all I have to do is separate the batch into smaller batches and just add the Aroma blends, fill the jars and put the labels on. I’ll be working on this very soon. So all the Aromas are what I consider either warm weather scents or light clean or citrus scents. Here’s the list and please take note some of these scents have been updated or modified to represent the scent I wanted them to be the first time around. In order which ones would you like to have available 1st, 2nd and so on?

1. Melange de agrume - it’s simply 90% Ruby Red Grapefruit EO with a 10% touch of the Japanese Grapefruit Yuzu EO.
2. Bergamotto- the name explains this scent on this one.
3. Blood Orange - A fresh batch of the EO from this years crop of Calabrian Blood Orange and it smells fantastic.
4. Ravello - A fig forward scent .
5. Rosa - Nothing but 100% Rose EO’s, Floral Water, Distillate's and Absolutes
6. Blue Note - Clean Barber style scent.

2 Ok so second question. Aside from other scheduled releases like Vanilla Safi, Lemoncello and Kailua , Greenfresh, Colonia my plans are to take some of the Aromas listed in the Tallow Crème list and make them also in the F Base. So of those listed above in order of preference what aromas would you like to see available 1st, 2nd, 3rd and so on? Please pick from the list only.

I’ve definitely got some catching up to do but Monday my assistant is back from her vacation and we are going to be working out butts off trying making products. I probably won’t make all of them in F Base but I will be making some of them this summer. Fall and winter will bring a some new and previously made products that have been out of stock. A couple of examples, Lost Souls and Mandarino Fumo and of course October 1st it’s Dragonsbeard again as I want to get back to the traditional release date.

So can’t wait to hear your thoughts and input on the list.

Best regards

Frank

2. Melange de agrume
3. Bergamotto (Number 3 only because I am still working through a jar of Bergamotto )
