Yep, I've always done that.

I made a new batch and it’s very smooth with no sting and I said anyone who got one of the ones with the wrong alcohol please email me and I’ll replace it.  Also mentioned that you can use it as a spray cologne but don’t use it as a aftershave or it will sting .

We've touched on this subject before and my bottle was from the initial batch when Tonka Bean was first released.  I have a backup that I bought a month or so ago.  I think I'll pull it out and compare it with the one I'm using.  So far I've just accepted that the sting is just part of the post shave experience.  I was mostly just letting Cino know he wasn't alone with that alcohol burn.

Got it but that still bothers me so yes please compare the 2 and let me know if there’s any difference. The only other thing it could possibly be is the Coumarin. When I made the Skin Food Splashes up until this last batch I made I used the crystals but since have gotten a organic liquid from my Italian supplier. It’s milder in both scent strength and in feel on the skin. I made a new batch about 10 days ago so any Skin Food Splash made before that would have the crystals in it and that would be the only other thing that’s different other than the ones that got made with the Perfumers alcohol.

So again let me know how the two you have compare and if the 2nd one you got is still giving you an unusually stronger sting than any other ETHOS sSkin Food Splash then I’ll send you one of the new ones to compare to. The reason this is bothering me is Tonka Bean is usually very mild on the skin. Especially the Tonka Bean Butter. So I personally want to get to the bottom of this.

Thank you for your input

Today's shave I'm using a Timor blade with six previous shaves.  I usually only go five or six shaves with this blade so I figured the seventh shave may not be as smooth and a good test for the SFS.  Turned out to not be the case and the shave was almost as smooth as when the blade was new.  I think that the Tonka Bean soap seems to add a slickness that's really noticeable between each pass.  This effect will need further testing, but I noticed it yesterday and then again this morning although I never noticed this using Tonka Bean alone.

Back to the SFS.  I applied the juice from the original bottle to the left side and the new bottle on the right.  The both gave me that same alcohol burn although each side was different in intensity.  As far as I am concerned, this seems to be normal reaction to the alcohol used for the SFS and not from what one may experience from perfumers alcohol.  I will say that my first few uses of the Tonka Bean splash, the alcohol burn was super intense for about a minute.  That feeling has diminished over time and I do not have any burning when I use it in the evening, a full day post shave, just because I like the scent.

Ok then that confirms what I was thinking.

So send me your shipping address and I’m going to send you a bottle to use and compare with the two you have.  This new one should not sting any more than any of my other alcohol based Skin Food Splashes.  As any alcohol Spalsh from anyone has the potential to have a slight t lo pretty potent sting. I actually have a friend that likes aftershaves that are just alcohol and fragrance as he likes a strong sting.

An your right about the soft feeling your getting From the Tonka Bean as the Tonka Bean Butter is very good for the skin. It’s also noticeable in the Serum. So good observation.

I have to be honest here and say that lavender is not high on my list of likeable scents.  But both lavender and tonka bean are comfort inducing scents and the tonka bean made the lavender much more likeable.  I'm not really sure these two actually work together all that well anyway.

Yes it’s all ready and the only thing holding it up is the label for the serum. If they don’t  get here by Wednesday I’m going to ship the other 3 products off to my vendors so we can release them. Two mistakes on the labels and it’s the first time with this new company but I can’t say I’m happy. Wanted to launch all 4 together.

Thanks for the inquiry Cino

UPDATE:

So I've been doing a lot of thinking lately on where ETHOS Grooming Essentials is going in the next 6 months and I thought I'd bring you up to date on some of my projects.

1. This latest incident with the Tonka Bean Skin Food Splash stinging people basically was the icing on the cake as far as making a decision that I've been pondering for quite some time now. The Tonka Bean high alcohol or coumarin crystal thing is fixable and really no big deal to do so but I've been wanting to take my Alcohol Skin Food Splashes to another level on top of the skin beneficial ingredients that are already in them. It's the Alcohol I've been fixed on as I just don't like the smell of the Alcohol note that I have to fight when adding Aroma ingredients in and I've tried a few.  including Pure Sugar Cane alcohol which is not only an upgrade to most others but also more expensive. I like it don't get me wrong but in the background there has always been something better but it's not sold wholesale through suppliers but only through Retail Liquor Stores and that's Everclear. 190 Proof Pure Grain Alcohol and it has no smell and is also better on the skin. In fact I've put it on my skin as a aftershave right out of the bottle. No sting at all and with the addition of a bunch of skin care ingredients that include the EOS Complex, Aloe Vera, Witch Hazel and all the other ingredients I normally use it is in a league of its own. Aroma comes out purer without the Alcohol note  To test it today I made a small batch of the new upcoming Ravello Aroma Blend and I did a 3 pass Shave with an efficient razor ( I normally do 2 passes ) and a brand new blade and got a close BBS shave out of it. I then put the new formula Skin Food Splash on using the Everclear and the sting was even less than my normal Skin Food Splashes and my skin feels  great.

I'm going to try to find a local Liquor store that will sell me this in cases at a discount as it's quite a bit more expensive than the other alcohols I've been using other than Perfumers for the EDP's but hey I want the best option for my customers.

Another update is I'm doing a Collaboration with The Razor Company and I just made 30 1 oz sizes of the Tallow Shave Creme for a Black Friday sale Jasons having. We will be going shortly into the full sized 4.5 oz and the matching Skin Food Splash.

It's called " Blue Note " and I'll post up a photo of the label shortly in this post.  Just so you know Jason is big on Cologne Type scents so he asked me to come up with a scent close to Jazz Club by Maison Margiela. He came up with the name of the Shave Creme after we went back and forth on a few and today my graphic designer and myself came up with the label design. Jason approved it so it's a go. I happen to have Jazz Club cologne at home that I got shortly after it was released and I like to wear it now and then so it will be nice to have a Shave soap and post shave product that will pretty much go with the cologne. It's a bit different as its got some Essential Oils and some Aroma Accords in it but I think we got pretty close.

Also I just picked up a new Euro Vendor and I'll annouche it once he puts in his Initial order this coming week. Also for my Canadian friends you'll be happy to hear that Carmine at the Top of the Chain is back on board as life and Covid got in our way for a while. Pasteurs, The Razor Company and The Shave Supply will all have some of the new products very soon.

Great Shaves all and have a great weekend!

I'm guessing tax drives the cost of Everclear. Have you looked into lab grade 95% ethanol?

BTW: I'm all in on Jazz Club!
