I can use some options on something I’ve been going back and forth on. I’ll try to make it short.. not always easy for me lol
Anyway as anyone that know my shave soap jars they all have a brushed aluminum lid on them. Well after creating the new label with my graphic designer for the upcoming Mandarino Fumo in the new Humidor Collection I thought to myself I wonder what a brushed matte finished gold lid would look like. The supplier I get my silver lids from has the gold in stock to. I will say I’d use the the Gold ones when I start to offer custom made shave soaps when the level 3 customizing option becomes available if that’s what the customer wants but looking at my whole line of products I’m not sure I want to go away from the look of the packaging I’ve established the brand with from the get go. So anyway my graphic designer mocked up a matte gold lid and also the standard silver. She likes the gold but likes the silver more.
So what’s your take on this subject.
IMO the gold goes much better with this particular label. Speaking more generally, here are some considerations that occur to me:
- Each color has advantages for different cases. IMO Colonia, Lavender, and Success were better framed as they were, in silver. Mélange d'agrumes might have looked better with gold, and I'm guessing that Greenfresh and Mysore would have done at least as well, and maybe better.
- You mentioned that the finish is brushed matte, and to me, that is as important as the color. The matte finish is a big part of why I like gold with the label above. OTOH matte is not what I would want with, say, Colonia.
- This may be just me, but I'll put it out there anyway: Speaking as an amateur photographer shooting with a cell phone, glossy gear can make it harder for me to edit something in a way that best shows off the gear - other things being equal of course. There are plenty of us amateurs posting SOTD photos every day, so to the extent that something helps us show your handiwork better, it's a good thing. But as I said, maybe that's just me.
- All label considerations also depend on the caps. I know you didn't ask about caps, but other things being equal, if I were using a matte, gold border (quite possibly with a matte interior), I might prefer black or matte black cap instead of the silver caps on the related products.
- Last, and definitely not least, is the complexity and cost. Two colors? Different caps? Of course, only you can decide.
Hmm?
Good luck Frank.
Plus one for the SOTD statement.
WE HAVE A WINNER In the " Name the product contest " A big congrats out to Lipripper660
After much thought and going back an forth on names that were thought up by al of you who posted and btw thank you all for your time and effort you put into it. I've finally picked a winner and a name for the upcoming Cannabis Collections first product the Healing serum. This was a tough one to choose as I was going to go with something really simple to spell and say but I thought nothing but a couple of words that would be used in the description of the benefits of the product would work like Restore, Revive ( which was in the finals ) Revitalize or protect would make sense but I wanted something more unique as most of those words are what I'll use in the description anyways. I eliminated all the typical 60's / 70's hippie type names although I did like a couple of those names it wasn't where I wanted to go with this product... maybe when I do the Shave soap Skin Food Splash. We'll see.
Asclepius whos was Lipripper660 's pick. The Greco - Roman God of health & medicine with emphasis on healing won me over in the end. I like the concept and the name is really not that difficult to say.
So Lipripper660 please contact me via email and we will get started on getting you your prizes.
Email me ethogroomingessentials@gmail.com
A big thanks to everyone who participated in this contest and I'm sure I'll reach out to you again in the future for help.
The Asclepius should be available by next week for all that are interested in this unique product. I'll be updated it with the ingredients and aroma profile soon as I'm finalizing the aroma blend.
Great Shaves all!

UPDATE:
Ok so as some of you may know who have had conversations with me over the phone about making a 100% authentic Mysore Sandalwood shave soap you know that I've had a lot of inquires about making one because I make an authentic Mysore Sandalwood Skin Food Splash and EDT. Well as any soap maker will tell you it takes a heck of a lot more fragrance oil, essential or aroma Isolates to make a Shave soap than it does to make an aftershave splash. A lot of people are shocked when I tell them a close estimate of the retail cost of what a 4 oz jar of Pure Mysore Sandalwood Shave soap would cost even sold directly to them as this is not a soap that would be available through a vendor. I've mentioned it would be extremely expensive as Mysore Sandalwood oil from India bought through the Government is not only very hard to get but again very expensive and there is no magic wand that can be waved to get it any cheaper. I know of only two places I can get it and believe me I've done my research. There are many other types of Sandalwood oils such as East Indian ( my 2nd favorite ) which still has some of the creaminess and warmth that Mysore does but not with as heavy a dose of either. Royal Hawaiian is gaining some popularity lately as it kind of warm and a little bit spicy which is interesting to me. Good quality is also hard to get. Of course, there's also Indonesia, New Caledonia, and Australian Sandalwood oils and maybe a couple of others I"m missing. For me, both New Caledonia and Australian are very linear and lack any warmth or creaminess and although they can be utilized as base notes in some blends to me they have very little value on their own as far as a featured aroma. Purchasing Sandalwood these days is a shot in the dark if you try to buy it directly from many of the wholesalers in places like India, the US, or Canada for example because there are a lot of fakes out there that are Sandalwood of some sort but have been diluted with a carrier oil like Jojoba oil for example. Also buying any Sandalwood oil is expensive but Mysore is at a whole other level price-wise and it averages around $1,200 US dollars for 100 grams. Well, 100 grams doesn't go far when making a batch of Shave soap so it's a large investment on my part upfront.
So I've had a list going that has been private up till now but I got another person today asking to be put on the list. BTW this list was started a few months ago so this is nothing new. I've also stated that I'm willing to make the soap when I get to either 10 people on the list for a 4 oz shave soap or a total order for 50 oz of shave soap total as it can be divided up amongst those that don't want a full 4 oz of the shave soap. So far there are 4 people on the list that want a 4 oz jar. So I'm making it publicly known that there is a list going if anyone wants to get on it. Because of the price I'm going to figure it out on an individual basis with the folks on the list as to the amount of soap they want in their jars. I'll need to know all this upfront before ordering the Mysore. So this may take a while unless the list fills up quickly and I can always make more if I get more than 10 on the list.
I don't think it is proper to discuss the prices of the shave soap online as it may vary depending on the size the customer wants. So if anyone is interested in getting on the list please email me and we can go over some of the details.
I will say one thing regarding the price. If the price of the Vanilla Safi that is coming out soon is too pricey for you then you may not want to even bother inquiring as this will surpass that by a bit.
I'm a huge fan of high-quality Sandalwood oil and like most I've had to use synthetic fragranced sandalwood shave soaps which is fine but I'm kind of at a place now where I'm one of those that will be on the list for the real thing so that's 5 on the list. LOL
