Magnets....sounds like an IBC razor. Nice design.

I think the magnets are cool too - a "why didn't someone think of that before" kind of idea.  In fact, I am intrigued to know more about the development story of this razor, the engineering decisions that were made, and the "why" behind those decisions.  Perhaps that story will be more widely known some day.

OTOH and FWIW, I don't see this as a lot like an IBC, even granting the three blade format capability and folding shavette format.  Of course that is a personal conclusion we all make.  In my case, there is what we know already about the head, the double gimps, and the look of  the scales.  The scales seem more substantial and wider than the IBC, and I am guessing the Tedalus will offer a steadier grip.  (I'm not trying to dis the IBC either.  I just don't see the grip as one of its strong points.)

 Oh, of course.
The reference to the IBC was purely based on the sole aspect of using magnets.
I had looked at it as a sort of hybrid between an IBC and feather DX. I'm curious to see how the blade loading works.

The length of the scales, in ratio to the blade holder, seems significantly longer than usual.
Is it just me, or Is it something to do with balance or aesthetics?

I think it looks awesome. Sweeping lines. But yeah, I wonder if the balance will be off when shaving, even if (presumably) the head is stainless steel and the handle is aluminum.

Oh well, I have never shaved with a straight razor or shavette before, so I won't know any better. Smile

I noticed the handle too and thought - as Pottertons mentioned - about the balance.  But my impression - what I am inclined to believe - is that Tedalus has been meticulously designed, so I assumed the handle is something low density, like a polymer perhaps.

I will send a link to this thread to the maker, the blade is made out  of 17-4 stainless steel and the handle is 6061 aluminium  hard anodised.
Length when open 238mm and closed 189mm, weight 61 gram and to answer the questions about the balance ?

NICE!
You know what? For some reason, I thought the handle/scales were plastic.
Interesting indeed.

As for the weight, I'll have to check the ones that I have to see if there's much difference.
I'm hoping the Essence has more heft to it.

p.s are you the sole tester?

Pffft ... I'll be impressed when you start spinning that thing on your finger tip like a basketball.

In all seriousness, many thanks for the shot. Looks great extended. I've seen a lot of other straight razors fully ended that look like too much handle and not enough blade. This looks good.
