I received from an eBay seller a razor with obvious dings in the "brand new" Merkur head, and he did not respond to my complaint, so I filed a case with eBay. He still did not respond, so eBay decided in my favor and gave me a return address label to print, and I put the razor in the mail. I'm waiting now for it to get back to the seller so I can get my refund. But today I got this message from the seller:

"Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I have been very Ill. I have a life threatening illness. I don't have much time to live. I've been fighting one heck of a battle. I'm very sorry for not being able to reach you in time. Things like this happen. But I should have taken a much better view on the head to notice these dings. I hope that you will at least contact eBay to let them know that I would appreciate having my negative feedback removed. I would hate to have this destroy my reputation on eBay."

Hmmm. Maybe I'm just a mean old man, but I'm tempted to write back saying hey, if you don't have long to live, why worry about your eBay reputation...

John,
I would simply say, "I am sorry about your illness. When I receive my full refund, I will consider removing the feedback."

I know you both don't mean that.

This sort of happened to me on another forum. I asked the razor if it was in perfect condition, no issues. The seller said yes. The price is more or less $150.

He sent it to with dings on the cap and soap scum on it's nooks and crannies.

Sent the guy a polite message that he may have overlooked the two dings, and he may have not seen them.

I didn't receive a response, not even an apology.

I just left it at that. I am not very confrontational. I was under the impression that our community is safe from these things, so I was surprised. I am also not in the CONUS, guys like me have fewer recourse.

I don't like being unfair to other people, but this time I really felt I was taken advantage of.

I still have the razor here with me, with no intention to sell it cause who's going to want a DLC razor with dings on the top cap. I don't even use it, and honestly, I don't even like seeing it. It's an eyesore.

Ebay/Paypal are very buyer-friendly. I always let them handle it.

Right, but this was from another forum that didn't have a user feedback system, and because I am not in the CONUS, the item took more or less a month before it got here.

This was also the first time something like this happened to me, I didn't know how to respond or what to do. Really felt like crap at the time.

That is very unfortunate to hear, but I doubt those blemishes would prevent you from selling a very-sought-after razor.
If you really don't like it, offer it for sale as I am most certain someone would buy it.

Good luck. Shy

I don't want to play the devils advocate here but why would a man who fights life threatening illness cares about the negative reviews on his ebay page? I mean cmon now....

What does he care about his reputation on ebay if he is going to be dead soon? I guess I'm a mean old man too - "Get off my lawn!"Sad

Seriously, what a crock of bull manure - the guy seriously expects such a transparent BS story to get you to back off your claim and go away with your defective razor? Really, the dude's on death's door but with his few days left on this earth he's selling stuff on ebay and concerned about his vendor rep? He just wants to be able to snare the next unsuspecting victim. Abusing people's emotions and good nature like this jerk obviously is doing should earn him a visitation from a life threatening illness. I know a few that would happily adjust his attitude.
