PSA

There's a lot of bogus listings today. I reported half a dozen of them this morning.

All modernish hard to get safety razors. A Jürgen Hempel handle. All listed by sellers with zero feedback in China.

Descriptions look like copies of real listings.
Prices are 10 - 20% of going rates.

Beware!

Looks too good to be true and it probably is.

A couple Webers and 2011 R41 razors.

Seems oddly specific items and each listing is from a different account. All are free shipping from China. Probably a scam brothers.

I don't understand the strategy here. Why bother posting these scam listings if eBay ends up refunding all of the buyers' payments? Are the sellers somehow swindling eBay itself?

I don't know.

The shipping probably takes just long enough and the price is just low enough that they hope you wait too long or don't want to go through the trouble of getting a refund.

Scammers are about quantity and have thought about it longer than we have. If they get the cash and close the account then yeah, eBay and PayPal lose. Which in the long run probably means higher fees for the rest of us.

In addition, Todd, it looks like he's got a couple of 'Wolfman' handles-same pattern, ships from China, new accounts, no feedback. You have to laugh at the picture he or she posted of the Darwin handle-it's a piece of black tissue paper!

I've had a couple of times that something took ages to arrive, and the seller asked for more time, or claimed there was a problem and he sent it again. It was a scam to waste time beyond the standard protection duration, so basically I was scammed. I learned my lesson, and nowadays even if the seller is honest, top ratings, and swears it was a fluke, etc. I'd contact eBay for a refund, and if you're still interested, repurchase. That way your money is still safe.

There's a bunch of them. New ones.

Every listing is just under $30. I wonder what that means?

Weird. Someone who knows what is catchy too and scarce. Like a black dlc Muhle razor. Not random.

Bumping for the night shift.

If I'm wrong I missed some great deals. Half of these have sold...

There was also a Cobra Classic and other Wolfman razors.

There is another selling practise I encountered. The item was a NIB Coleman coffeepot. I bought it and the item arrived from a completely different USA vendor . The 'seller' was in Israel. He took my money, bought it quickly and made a small profit acting as unknown middleman. I left negative feedback. A few of the victimised shippers have retaliated in monitoring the sales and will quickly jack up the price and hit them hard in the wallet. Shaving items in this scam are often MWF and Pre de Provence.

Here is another scam. The dudes listing the Wolfman handles has closed their accounts.

I wouldn't buy anything from China these days. I'm starting to wonder how many items are a scam. I ordered some small stuff early Jan and out of 10 items, only 2 arrived. So far ebay I have received refunds on most. Some of the sellers are long gone and ebay refunded those ones, others insisted on re-sending the item, but after 8-10 weeks of waiting, I'm really not interested in waiting another 8-10 weeks. 1 vendor refused to give a discount so I had to request ebay to step in and they did.

I wonder how much of this is a scam and they just hope that people forget or don't bother requesting refunds on small inexpensive items. I played the odds with some card wallets before Christmas, I ordered 6, expecting that some would not make it. In the end, 4 out of 6 arrived, the other 2 sellers were long gone.

I also ordered 4 money clips at the beginning of February. 1 arrived so far, but there are a 4 more days until the expected arrival date passes. I doubt that I will get them.

To be quite honest, I don't trust the integrity of any of the Chinese vendors. I think half of them are a scam and don't ship anything and I think the quality is suspect on the other half. In the end, it has been interesting watching theses purchases that I made. I was never that worried because the dollar values have been small, but I can attest that the ebay buyer protection works really well, but you have to take the time to file the claim when the expected shipping date passes and follow up again if the vendor is gone or does not reply.
