I’m not sure if the procedure has an effect on the skin by the time I shave again. But I haven’t had any rust issues since I started doing this (not that I really had any before — this is just precautionary).

It is said that the only difference between Personna (Med) Prep blades and Personna Super (Lab Blue) blades is that the former are sterilized for hospital use. (Then of course there is a debate about whether that is truly the only difference between those two blades, but that’s a discussion for another thread.)
This makes me wonder — if only this one type of blade is advertised as sterilized, then how clean are all the other blades that we are using? (I don’t mean to derail the thread, but I thought it might be somewhat relevant to the subject matter.)
you made me think of something I read on GAD (general anxiety disorder). My daughter had some anxiety issues a number of years back. Usually whatever is causing the anxiety seems pretty harmless when trotted out in the cold light of day but one thing you should never do when trying to reassure a loved one during an anxiety attack is tell them how harmless their particular worry might be (assuming they can even articulate it) and then list off a litany of other things they encounter every day that are way worse than that. You know what happens right? Yup, they start worrying about whether their razor blades are sterile.
