yes, I know face lathering & the actual process of shaving exfoliates the skin....what I'm referring to is using a facial scrub or a brush that's designed to exfoliate the skin. does anyone do this before their shaves? has it helped you out?

I fixed A LOT of my issues by switching to a feather as-d2 and trying to shave every 2-3 days and go strictly WTG for my first pass, but there's still the occasional spot or 2 that gets a bump here or there. Once I get more time in with my feather as-d2 (new razor to me), I'm sure it'll work itself out.

that said, I know people with facial hair like mine (lays VERY flat against the skin and starts to curl) have said before that they believe exfoliating prior to shaving helps them out.

what are your thoughts on this?

I use a facial scrub 2-3 times a week, usually the night before a morning shave

Andrew, I rarely experience bumps or ingrown hairs, so I have never needed to exfoliate.
For me, face-lathering for 2-3 minutes seems to work wonderfully.
However, folks with similar issues to what you experience might find very good benefits by exfoliating before their shaves. Shy

I do suffer with flat growing hairs and I use a face scrub in the shower prior to shaving. I think it helps immensely. I use The Real Shaving Co scrub Smile

I exfoliate once or twice a week using Clinique for Men scrub face cream. However the new L'Oreal black coloured face exfoliating cleanser is also very good.

Face lathering with a badger brush gives me plenty of exfoliation prior to my shave.

Exfoliation seems to help my friend that is especially prone to shave bumps. He uses a gentle daily scrub from Acqua di Parma. I also use this product and find that it can be used even on my extremely sensitive skin without issue.

The principle of exfoliation to reduce bumps makes sense. From a mechanical standpoint, sweeping away dead skin/blockages and lifting the hairs are both essential to preventing ingrown hairs.

I might have to get my wife to make me a sugar & coffee scrubs. she usually makes them around Christmas as gifts, but I've never used one personally.
