Do you get irritated when.....

I might have come across the wrong way ... the older I get the longer my list of affronts and complaints gets.

when young, we learn. In middle age, we become set in our ways but still learn. At the golden years we want to teach and pass on our values to the young, and inevitably, with years, we tend to become entrenched and affronted that the young wont respect older tradition.

The iconic Grumpy Old Man image exists for a reason. I, and a few others, have said the older I get, the more I let things go. Who cares? Life is too short to worry about small stuff.

In the TZ clip, the point was  You cant go home. So this is my message.


All of us, every one of us, has so long to live. Don't worry about trivia. The world will move on, with or without you, and some old traditions or beliefs will just die out, particularly in the tech world. No one has to believe this, but its just better to move on and adapt, Becoming upset about what others do, or being affronted, is a black hole of despair. Instead, look forward. Be happy. I know this is hard to do because the older we get, the more entrenched we become.

Truer words were never spoken - well maybe but not very often. I like to think I'm becoming wiser as I get older and I try not to sweat the small stuff. I cannot control what others do but I can control my reaction and really, why would I want to make myself unhappy by becoming angry? That doesn't mean I like or condone those behaviours that formerly (hopefully) triggered a reaction in me, I'm just not going to generate a bunch of negative emotion over it. Many of the fashion/grooming choices made by those of younger generations today look foolish to me through the lens of having grown up in the 1960-70s but thats the beauty of living in this part of the world. We're free to look foolish if we so choose and what may look foolish to me can be the height of style and cool to another man. Who am I to criticize? But seriously, those extra long toed dress shoes not only look ridiculous but I think they are a safety hazard.

Ahh, the key to happiness found easily in the above 2 posts...don't sweat the small stuff and don't worry about what other people are doing.

I've never been a huge fan of Disney movies. I've always been more of an Evil Dead over Little Mermaid. But I am compelled to blurt out a line so famous now it has become entrenched in modern youth culture; "LET IT GO!!"

Traditions, references, styles, manners, and societal norms will come go, change and evolve, and adapt along with each new generation. That's how life works. Yes, it can be disheartening to see the values we hold dear become laughable to a younger generation. But is it worth causing yourself anger over it? Truth be told those whippersnappers will just laugh at the tantrum so why waste your time and energy?

Enjoy your life, your hobbies, your books, your music, your level of technological involvement. Accept that this is neither universal nor enforceable, and just live. And if someone doesn't like your references and grammar, or has no appreciation for your use of google over Oxford, so what? Raise your glasses in a toast to the freedom that allows us all to make our own choices and let it go...

Hey, wait a minute. There’s a pair of those in my closet. I shall wear a helmet with them next time…

I made a tongue in cheek comment with less thought than flicking a bugger from my nose. Said bugger rolled down the hill gathering speed and mass, smashing vehicles, apartment complexes, several farm animals, a private plane and two mormon missionaries on bicycles while the John Phillips Sousa march used by Monty Python played in the background. I really need to stop collecting silk pocket squares and pick up more cotton handkerchiefs.
