I am so glad for the opportunity to focus on the boar brush this month. This basic Omega brush is now so soft, it may just be the best $9 I spent on shaving last year. I have never used a badger, but this feels like what i imagine one would.

Wonderful post! And I am with you on the badger brush comment. I started with an Amazon badger that I really liked. Then it got fouled by a heavily scented soap that drove my wife's sinuses into hyperdrive. This was 5 years ago, almost exactly. I was unable to get the smell out of the brush and the bathroom sink smelled for almost 5 days, no matter what I poured down it. Lesson learned, and I became a scentsless shaver. Also better for work, as most of healthcare is scent-free. As for badgers, I tried 3 different grades from Whipped Dog. 2 seemed to make my face irritated. And boars were so hard, stiff, and scratchy. I didn't know about multi-day soaking, didn't want to take the time to break them in with hand lathering for days, and wrote them off. So I became fully synthetic! Now, loving the boars and having picked up a Mistura on the BST, I am actually toying with getting a boar knot from Paul T when he is restocked. No handles, lol, I have plenty now!

I was amazed after my first shave using Proraso white at how long the scent lingered. To me it was a benefit. I can see how that would be a real problem for someone with sensitivity. I used to sing in a choir and developed a sensitivity to scents. If any one near me wore perfume, cologne, nearly anything, my throat felt like a cat scratched my throat and I could barely talk for hours. That was a few years ago and I have not sung since. My wife is shocked that I can tolerate the soap scents. Well, I'm not singing any more.

Enjoying a visit with my parents. Got a much better shave using a Feather blade in this razor. I do love the vintage-style case, especially for travel. First time face lathering with this brush. The short loft will likely keep this brush from ever feeling as soft as a badger brush, but it was not as harsh or scritchy as I was expecting.

At the last minute I called an audible and went with the WK Dulci Tobacco soap kindly gifted to me by Dave. I wanted to futz around with palm lathering and creams are a good medium. As of this morning, I can just barely smell a hint of the soap scent in this one. I'm getting very excited!

I chose my newly acquired Gamechanger 68 today. Last time I used the 84, so I wanted to reacquaint myself with the lower end of the GC spectrum. As I expected, it was a smooth smooth shave, but well below my standards. In the end I swapped out for the 84 plate to finish it off. Regardless, I'm happy to have both plates. While it's unlikely in January, eventually sunburn season is coming. I may need to have a safer trim.

Finally, the reason for the season... Err month. I chose the 22mm Semogue 1305. Unfortunately, I let my guard slip, along with the brush (soapy hands) and now my 1305 has some added character. Ooh well, no big deal. The worst part was I did something wrong in the prep (likely too wet). As I only got 2 passes out of the lather. That's ok, I just got the chance to go back for another round of palm-lathering.

In the end, it was a close, comfortable, and fun shave. What more could I ask for?

We've all heard it, right, the "it builds character!" remark. Now you brush has character! Much of my stuff is like that, too. I once taught with a guy who said the best thing to do to his new truck would be to key it somewhere, so he'd stop babying it! I doubt he did key it, but I get it. I'd go in the woods with Dad (back then I taught 100 miles east from him, so we could more easily meet up) and he'd have me jump out of his new(er) truck and move branches and bushes so they would scratch the paint of his so-called "working" truck! Good times!

Lol. The branches seem a bit excess, I think. Still, from your story he was obviously blue collar, worked hard for a living, and was very proud of attaining that truck. Can't blame him for babying it.
