I feel I must apologize for not posting a lot this year! For this week, I have strayed from boars and been gravitating towards some smaller badger brushes and today a synthetic. But I applaud all who have stayed the course. I will most likely end the year with boars.

I feel I must apologize for not posting a lot this year! For this week, I have strayed from boars and been gravitating towards some smaller badger brushes and today a synthetic. But I applaud all who have stayed the course. I will most likely end the year with boars.

No apologies needed, as it is all in good fun and whatever trips your trigger. I have been very fortunate to be part of a pass around that allowed me to sample a wide variety of boar brushes beyond my Omega Pro 49, my very first brush in 2020. Turns out, after all that variety, my humble Omega is so well broken in, it is actually my favorite of all. I briefly considered steaming out the knot to transfer to a more attractive handle, but I do not want to take any risk that might harm that knot!

I figured I could give you a hard time about your badger use but what the heck, that wouldn’t be nice. I find Decemboar easy as I tend to favour boar brushes so it’s not really a hardship for me to go 100% boar for a month. 

The main problem with boar brushes is the significant performance difference between a new brush and a well broken in brush. It’s dramatic and not like that with badgers. It takes commitment and perseverance to get most new boars into enjoyable condition. I recommend committing to using a new boar once a week consistently until it properly breaks in. It’s just too easy to pass them by and then a year or two down the road it’s had only a half dozen or so uses and is still underperforming. It’s hard to love a brush like that. Commit. Break it in and you’ll love it.

Titanium Vector with the 5th use on a Captain blade, Deton Majik unscented, and an Ever Ready 150 brush with the MR boar knot. Great shave, but I get carried away and almost nicked a nostril! When the shave starts off great, I think I tend towards overconfidence which leads to carelessness with sharp objects. I imagine I am just starting to look like Kermit, with arms flailing, as I get my shave on! But the nick was very shallow, maybe only a layer of skin, no blood, but just enough sting to remind me that blades are sharp and don't care what they cut!
