DecemBOAR 1, 2024

Starting the month with the copper handle Zenith, because it is my coolest looking brush. But not nearly as cool as Eric's MaineYooper new Athena. That is one purty razor!

Thanks ewk for the kind words. I let my impulsive purchase nature loose last month and now I need to behave!

That is in incredibly good condition for 12 yrs. old! Mine was really beat up. My hat is off to you.

Anyway, the 1305 is a great brush. Does everything well. Having said that, I think that the Omegas are getting better. I bought a cheap one not too long ago and it had less animal smell and broke in better than a Pro 49. I wound up PIF because I really didn't need ti. But still, I think Semogues are the most luxurious of boar brushes. From what I can tell, the fact that they are hand made leads to some variability in quality control.

I had two great boars that Mike generously sent me last year. Unfortunately, one decided to go 'rogue' sometime earlier this year and join its brothers in shedding hair, too.

As I don't love natural hair, this brush doesn't get a lot of use. Still, since it's DecemBoar, I figure I should at least play along at home from time to time.

This one was originally an Omega 28mm in a plastic metallic handle. It got transplanted to one my wife gifted me a few years back (Yingling brushworks). It's pretty well broken in and works great. It carries two sets of memories now: a present from my wife and a gift from a great friend here.

As expected, it was a wonderful shave. Still using the Stirling Barbershop and loving every minute of it. Of course, the Overlander also played a role. I'm nothing if not predictable. Lol.

Have a great evening folks!

Haha. Very different brands. Yingling is probably the shortest lived brushmaker (~1 year on Etsy), whereas Yeungling is America's oldest running brewery (~195 years and counting). Guess there's more stability in alcohol.

The Semogue boar knots are really nice. Minimal shedding and luxurious. I have enough brushes that the 1305 probably only gets used every couple of weeks. Also when I soak my brushes before use I make sure to keep the water level below the handle which I think is especially important with wood handles.
