Well it arrived all grimy and the silver plating worn or cleaned off the handle but the head while scratched a little is still intact.


After a little cleaning with soap and water and some Bar Keepers Friend for the handle. Ready for shaving

Razor: Gratiot Krect Spiral Curve Slant
Blade: Wizamet (?)
Brush: Sorrentino Orange Crush
Soap: Lakewood SOCP (1508.5 Project)
AS 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla 70

I want to get to the new slant from China but this trumps it when it came in yesterday. Had one of these that was rough on the edge of the top cap but shaved like a dream other than that. I sent it off to have it redone but when it came back it didn't shave the same. Too much had to be removed from the cap to get the edge smooth before it was re-plated perhaps. I don't know but the shave was different to me. I like shiny things but will refrain from getting this one done as the shave today was a reminder of the original before getting worked with the exception that the cap is smooth on the edge. I'm afraid to mess with it. What a nice, smooth and comfortable shave was had this morning. VERY happy to have gotten another as these are pretty rare especially the plated brass version. Amazing how they could produce such a spiral curved slant with such a thin head as compared to what we see in a typical slant today and I love the handle attachment design which is unique to say the least. Razor: Yaqi Top Aggressive Slant

So the soap I didn't go with the Wholly Kaw and Brut I was planning as I watched a Fuzzy video and it reminded me I haven't used my No. 63 in awhile and was craving it. The razor up was a Signature handle with the Yaqi Top Aggressive Slant that is touted as "The Most Aggressive" Yaqi Razor. Let me say that although I've been accused of liking aggressive razors I don't agree. I'm more a mid aggressive razor guy. I like effective razors that have rigidly held blades that don't have blade chatter/give. This I will say is NOT in my wheel house. The blade is NOT held rigid close to the edge and it has play for tough whiskers. Not getting into a macho contest here but it is what it is. This thing is a beast the requires a ride the cap approach (not a preference of mine) that still for me was not comfortable. At halfway thru the 1st (wtg) pass I considered bailing out of finishing with it but did continue with the xtg and atg with it. I had 3 spots that it grabbed me on the atg pass and needed a touch of styptic to address which it did quickly. That said I got a glass like smooth face finish but I feel raw even as I type this. Easy to have a glass smooth shave when you remove a few layers of epidermis. This isn't for me but glad I tried it for the $8.50 entry point and can say I been there and did that.......................I guess Hope everyone has a great day and look forward to others thoughts in the thread discussing this on DFS since they appear to be arriving now in the states !!

Here’s an idea. If you get a razor you intend to refinish, don’t shave with it until after it’s done. That way it gets judged on it’s own merits instead of in comparison to its original state. Of course if it’s originally an awful shaver you may not want to invest the time and money into the refinish. Tough call.  They do look nice when there dine though.

AS 2: Nivea 2 into 1 Splash

Back to the 1508.5 project and this was a recovery shave in that I wanted something effective but not overly aggressive. The goal was to get a close shave and not add to the tenderness  was still feeling in places from yesterday's debacle. That said I could feel on the 1st pass that I really should skip a day or 2 but I'm at over 2 years of never missing a shave since I started taking note as a daily shaver. I considered stopping after 2 passes but wasn't happy with what I could feel and envisioned how much growth I would have by afternoon. Completed 3rd pass and after post shave I felt better than yesterday. The Nivea 2 into 1 only available from Germany is amazing stuff for recoveries. I know it will take multiple careful days to make up for the thrashing I took on Friday from that Yaqi razor. We'll get there but I have another loaner 3D printed razor coming today to review.............Have a great weekend folks !!
