Dave in KY I believe the knot in your brush is the Omega 10098 knot and it will take its time breaking in. I listened to the Lather Talk podcast with the brush maker and he mentioned he used those knots. It’s not clear whether he does any additional treatment. I picked up the Omega 10098?to see if it was as good as he said. I did the cold water treatment and a few test lathers and after maybe 10 uses it’s pretty good. One thing that was really tough is that it was the smelliest boar knot I’ve ever had and the stink persisted longer than I’ve experienced before. Really unpleasant smell. In any case if you persevere I believe you’ll be rewarded.

Marko, do you mean the Stirling? Never any funk smell. Just stiff and prickly but I will persist for sure. The Oumo in the Heritage is heaven although tall

An Oumo boar that after 3 days in water in fridge is split and as soft as some badger. Just wish it wasn't as tall a shape but can pinch it like a barber would to choke up on the knot if wanted. Been giving the same treatment to the Stirling now....

I’ve been looking for a way to get quality boar in a nice handle and it seems like your approach is a good one. I agree with you that those high loft boars can splay a lot. I’ve been favouring the Semogue lately. I went looking recently to pick up a few more of my favourites and they’re mostly sold out on the Canadian vendor sites. Not sure why.

You'll need to post pics of your line up of boars. I've only got 3-4, 1 being a unlabeled Burma Shave bought back in 1979 when I was in my teens. It's well broken in and a great latherer still

Yeah, they've always caught my interest as I like older and unusual and would see others with them. Finally landed one and learned for myself how it worked. I always assumed it was a snap closure also.........you know what assuming does so.....
