A razor I'm not going to shave with is this rather beautiful SE. It has a head that demands proprietary blades, and normal DEblades don't fit. Maybe Feather-SE-blades will, but these will most probably not fit snugly enough. So unless I find some NOS blades, it's look don't touch.

The box is parallellogram-shaped, the lid stays shut thanks to a popper, otherwise no distinguishing marks.

Opening the lid you see the razors' brand: Croscut. According to Waits' Compendium a brand by Temperite Co, Philadelphia. They supplied the United Drug Co, Boston, with this razor who then sold it to the public through their Rexall Drug Stores. Patent applied for and granted in 1911, trademark from 1911/1912, a known address for the United Drug Co in 1916, so it's pretty safe to say this thing is a hundred years old.

The razor is rather slender, and the shape of the box is a mirror of the shape of the head. Also, the head is placed on the handle in a slanted manner.

Changing blades is not that easy. The topcap clamps around the blade and the bottomcap and has to be slid down (diagonally). This is best done by pushing the thumbs against the OC and pulling the topcap towards you by the clamps with your fingernails. All handling of the topcap caused quite some plateloss there.

The blade is shaped like the head, with some extra metal at the spine sticking out with slanted edges. These cause the blade to be clamped between the ridges at the rear end of the bottomplate, which makes that you don't cut yourself changing blades.

All in all a rather pretty (to me) razor. Petty I can't use it.

Thanks for sharing another of your slant razors, efsk!

This is a very interesting razor. I think it's cool that they made the case to match the slant of the head. It's a shame that it requires proprietary blades. This is the only slant SE that I think I've ever seen. Is this the only slant SE that you have in your collection?

Thanks Blade4vor and yes you're right, these proprietary blades are a shame. I've meanwhile managed to fit a Feather, sort of, but then the cutting edge almost protrudes past the open comb, so I'm a bit hesitant in trying Big Grin
Apart from this I also have the RAS and the Tempo. The Ras takes proprietary blades as well, but RAS and Tempo both can be used with ordinary DE-blades. I'll show these as soon as I've used them, which is decided by my script (I wrote a little shellscript that picks a random razor for me to use). There's one or two more that I know of but am still searching.

ATT SE2 avant la lettre then ;-)
You know with the enormous collection of slants you have and given that you shave with each one and have made a review after use (although not all on the English forums) the people who want to bring slants to the market should consider sending you there prototypes, I can think of no one else with more expertise in slants.
Thanks for another review!

Thank you Snuff. Stuff to try is always welcome :-)
So far I've written (longer or shorter) reviews on the Dutch and a German forum mostly, with short comments on the UKforum. Am changing that now, putting the more comprehensive texts on the UKforum and here as well. Now I just have to decide if I should revisit the 50+ razors I've shown on the dutch forum and post them here as well.

Might not be a bad idea to wait until out proper review system is ready in a few weeks. Smile

I am. Obviously not all at once but I'd enjoy a weekly slant review and that would provide a year's worth of enjoyment. with a two week holiday of courseSmile
