Saw the title and MntnMan62 avatar and was sure somewhere in the discussion was going to be, 'Hey there brother, who you jivin' with that cosmic debris.'

Thank you for the heads up on Cosmic Crisp!

I'm tired and I have to admit that never even crossed my mind.  I'm a bad FZ fan.  I'm an imposter.  A fraud.  I don't deserve to use his likeness as my avatar.  Look here brother.  Don't waste your time on me.

Well, for me the hype turned out to be just that. The apple is good but not spectacular. It has a nice combination of tartness and sweetness, and it is crisp and juicy. It's no sweeter nor any better than a Honeycrisp.

Might be a bright side to this though. If it as good as Honey Crisp but not as finicky that would be a big deal. We can't even get a Honey Crisp seedling to last a growing season. The rootstock survives but the scion doesn't. Weird.

Borers? Any weeping of "jelly" near the base?

If that's what you see maybe the worm can be extricated with a piece of wire. But with a young tree it's always been a death sentence for it. Before it happens wrap the tree with tarpaper as a prevention. I think that's what I read anyway. You might google it to make sure. I just gave up on apples.

Appreciate the tips. We'll try a few more times before we decide to put in more walnuts or plums!
