Some of us seem to mainly prefer using a fragrance that exactly matches the aftershave used that day, while others like to mix and match more. I actually like to do both, my choice depending upon the specific products and my mood. This morning is used Ginger's Garden Springtime in Paris splash aftershave followed by Commodity Vetiver fragrance, and I really liked the combination. As you can see from the lists of notes below, they share some and have some that would seem to complement or balance notes in the other product.

Ginger’s Garden Springtime in Paris is a fougere blend of Lavender, Bergamot, Rose, Patchouli, Vetiver, Geranium, Oakmoss, Jasmine and Vanilla.

Vetiver by Commodity is a woody fragrance for women and men. Top notes are Blackberry, Apple and Petalia; middle notes are Jasmine and Jasmine Sambac; base notes are Haitian Vetiver, Indonesian Patchouli Leaf, Australian Sandalwood and Cedar.

A couple hours later, my wife commented about how much she liked how I smelled, which I think was the result of interactions of the aftershave and fragrance.

Have you noted certain combinations of aftershave and cologne or EdT providing new and uniquely good experiences when used together?

Today I used Calvin Klein Eternity aftershave and vintage Trumper Eau de Quinine EdT. They don't seem to share notes, but they worked really well together.
Eternity notes: sage, apple, ozonic tones, cypress, lavender, geranium, nutmeg, suede, ambergris, orris root
Eau de Quinine notes: rosemary, other herbs, bitters, cassia, gentian, orange peel, bergamot

Crabtree & Evelyn Sienna aftershave (vintage) and Issey Miyake Nuit d'Issey Noir Argent were excellent together this morning. They share some spice, leather, and citrus notes, but the Issey Miyake is quite a bit sweeter and somewhat less spicy.

I followed my Ethos Grooming Lavender Supreme splash today with Trumper Portugal. They don't share any notes, but they blended very, very nicely.

Today I used vintage Floris No. 89 aftershave (top notes Lavender, Bergamot, Orange, Neroli, Petitgrain and Nutmeg; middle notes Rose, Geranium and Ylang-Ylang; base notes Oakmoss, Musk, Sandalwood, Vetiver and Virginia Cedar), followed by Acqua di Parma Mandorlo di Sicilia (top notes Green Almond, Star Anise, Orange and Bergamot; middle notes White Peach, Ylang-Ylang and Jasmine; base notes Bourbon Vanilla, Tolu Balsam, White Musk and Cedar), which worked quite well together.

Their shared notes are Orange, Bergamot, Ylang-ylang, Musk, and Cedar. And they both have floral notes.

I don't want to bring down the tone of the thread, however, one of my favourite complimentary combinations is a straight up Bay Rum splash such as Captain's Choice or Stirling and a straight up Lime such as Stirling Lime.   Happy2

Sterling Archer expressed his views on aftershave in one of the Episodes of Archer - "Bay Rum.  And Lime.  Only.  Ever."

I can't recall the episode and I'd have to re-watch 10 seasons of the program to find it.  I will find it.  Big Grin

All kidding aside John, I think this is a great thread and like all of your threads, a great help to all wet shavers.  Thank you.  I wasn't kidding about the Bay Rum and Lime.

Thanks, Marko, I always appreciate your posts. Although I am not a big fan of bay rums for some reason, I do like them with lime and other citruses. Some combinations are pretty instinctual; but for me some have good ones have been surprising, which is why I started the thread.

The only times recall Archer referencing Bay Rum are in Swiss Miss - the penis in dopp bag fiasco with Anka - and in How to Archer book

Yeah, I remember that scene. I know that he mentioned it as I recall above and I will find it. I’ve started the rewatch process and k I’mm at season 1, episode 3. It will be a while. ? Maybe it was just bay rum dreaming.

Believe it season 2, episode 10??  From memory.  They were in Gstaad, Switzerland protecting a German Industrialist's teen daughter from Spanish?? terrorist kidnappers IIRC.  He curses the Bay Rum in the dopp kit stinging his penis cut from a Solingen straight razor (believe with French point). However, it appears he using canned foam vs his normal silver tip badger brush and soap pack. He also using spray deodorant to great effect on kidnappers ala Bond snake scene.

Good God, how the Hell do I recall so much of this?  Actually rarely watch the show and haven't seen a Bond film in many many years....

Pray am wrong on every count.

Stand by the Bay Rum and Lime comment originating in How to Archer book. Yes there actually is a book...read it once when encountered in a bookstore in utter disbelief.
