Asking for a friend…

Please reiterate to your friend that DFS has only 4 very simple rules...
  • No discussion of religion, politics, or weapons.
  • No cursing or vulgar language.
  • Personal attacks will not be tolerated.
  • Be respectful of all other members at all times.

"Calling someone out" has a tendency to lead some members to violate the last two rules.  Those violations often lead to a thread being closed and, in some instances, the thread being deleted.  Worst case, it can lead to bans.  To avoid closing this really great idea for a thread, please have your friend PM the seller so that the thread doesn't suffer.  If your friend does feel the need to post something about a flipper on the forum, please have him/her do so in a civil manner

Polished made of the same material will glide easier, with a lower coefficient of friction.  Maybe the soaps, razor geometry, blade sharpness make this so nominal we can’t subjectively tell.

But it can be tested (using physics) and it will hold, even if ever so tiny and needing a large enough sample set.

All of this aside, whatever your preference is you should buy.  It’s your money, spend it how you want.  I am just happy to have such great choices today.
I agree a hundred percent, when you purchase a polished razor they are held to a higher standard so they retain the tolerances required. I was more talking about just random people polishing say the cap on a Rockwell 6s and it’s just looks bad so why bother. On the BST some guy polished the head on a wolfman guerilla without even shaving with it and sold it. I remember a user here had a Yates razor polished by another member and he sold it because it changed the way it shaved too much. I personally won’t buy a razor that was polished afterwards by the customer, in my eyes the razor is ruined because it’s not what the razor maker is selling.

That said I don’t want to derail this thread I was just saying what I have noticed the past few years.

Yes & No depends how it’s polished…keep that in mind but to extend I agree on some things here.!

I was the user that had my Yates polished and no matter how much someone claims no effect to original specs happens, it did and does. It did not shave the same and I sold it because of that, but I DID tell the buyer it was altered. That's all I want to say on the subject......

I myself can see how polishing the plate has to take off at least a fine bit of metal, no way around that I guess.
I'm wondering if anybody ever has or could measure a bottom razor plate before or after polishing.

Here's the pics to show. The razor received after polishing and some with a stock H plate next to the polished H plate. Pics pulled from my Journal in that section a couple years ago to show as proof. If someone says they maintained the original specs after polishing I don't believe them. The person that polished this insisted they maintained the original tolerances....Proof is in the pictures. Looks beautiful ? YES ! Shaves the same ? NO ! How could it......

Yep, no denying it. When you do a specialty produced ,razor and not a mass produced one you don't have a comparison but when they were the same to start you CAN compare and see for sure.

Ruined, imo. Glad I never shipped my wolfman out to have it polished after the fact. Hate to see that Dave.

Certainly Not! Heaven forbid that a Flipper or Troll be called out for taking advantage/cheating others while ‘conducting business’!
