I have 2 of these razors in my small collection, but not directly from James.

I've sent a number of emails to him asking a few things without any reply. I don't know what is going on. I read how good experience and communication other members have with him, they over-hype his razors and I wonder if he responds only to certain people/ friends of him and those that are lucky to buy directly from his e-shop. To me this is frustrating. If I were a well known member of the community or a reviewer or a moderator at one of the biggest forums, would have I received a reply? What do you think? Also, I strongly believe that well known members of forums have such a good communication with him that buy razors without having to wait months, or years, or waiting for their turn to acquire one or more. And I'm not jealous at all because I already have 2, don't want more.

So, there is not a good communication. On the other hand, you have vendors and artisans that respond within a few hours or minutes. You don't have to send several emails without a reply. And this is something I appreciate in general.

Does anyone else have a similar experience with James?

I have never seen a WOLFMAN in person let alone shaved with or possessed one. That said, I took it on myself to confront a scalping issue and emailed several makers of sought after products with the scalper's identities. James very kindly replied with great concern. His view was if people would pay inflated prices to a third party hustler he had CONSIDERED RAISING HIS. Many of those artists have formally or informally refused direct sales to said individuals.
There has been past complaint of some individuals with ' an inside' line to these folks based on early patronage or other criteria. This may be true and is understandable ( if only they wouldn't crow about it like one posting his collection in the middle of such a complaint.) The simple fact is these guys are making products deemed superior and by reality small in number. Oftentimes they are one step ahead of Mickey Mouse in Fantasia trying not to drown. If they do not reply odds are they are standing at a lathe making that brush or razor handle.

I understand what you mean and this is what I first thought. But, it's not just one email.

If it's a technical question other owners usually have answer. If you want a particular model the military adage 'hurry up and wait' applies FOR NOW. I've watched the slow fermentation of sour grapes by people who want one and those who caught the brass ring and find it doesn't fit their finger. James has these stretches of being incommunicado.
He's a one man show, always trying to catch up with past orders and people who want a handle turned from a nickel meteor grandfather brought back from the Gobi desert.
Your frustration is understandable. I could throw some sour grapes your way-- you have TWO!

You must be howling mad. Maybe wait until the next full moon?

Seriously, if you email a vendor - any vendor - multiple times, wait a reasonable amount of time, and get no response, then maybe it is time to move on and take your business elsewhere. As a customer or potential customer, you are entitled to good customer service and quality products. If a reseller or manufacturer doesn't deliver, then they don't deserve your business. By the same token, you don't deserve the aggravation of dealing with a lot of nonsense.

This waltz has played before. People want a Wolfman. People can't get a Wolfman yet a small number of the serious buyers bide their time, watch for the order list to open and get
what they want instead of cruising the aftermarket. James can reply to the high volume of emails or he can make razors.

The Wolfman SB is the finest constructed DE razor made today.

It's also just an average shaver and somewhat rough in use. Others this weekend who have one or had one confirm this as well. It's not a popular appraisal but an honest one.

The Timeless .68 is a closer and much smoother shave if anyone is frustrated. Waiting lists are a waste of time I discovered after going through one.

Does he actually make them on a lathe still? Last I read he upgraded to a CNC in his shop.

Lathe is more literary pleasing than CNC.
