Cold water after the shave?

Is using cold water after a shave sufficient enough to end the shave or do you need to use some kind of aftershave? I tend to use alum or alcohol aftershaves for disinfectant purposes but i'm curious if cold water (and maybe a balm afterwards) is enough?

The answer is yes. When I use a splash after shaving it's always cold water rinse then aftershave. Same with balms. In the colder months I tend to do this more often as the skin dries out. If u want some alcohol buy some dickensons witch hazel and splash it on after the cold water rinse. Then the balm. Hope this helps.

I actually like to just rub in the lather that remains after my final pass, and then follow up with a moisturizer. Works for me, and makes my face feel great.

I'm the opposite. I use cold water before & during the shave then use the hottest water comfortable to rinse off with. I then finish with either an alcohol or aloe based splash.

It's really down to your comfort. If it's comfortable enough for you and your face feels good, you're golden.

This is my procedure, as well.

I generally use a warm water rinse, sometimes followed by a splash or balm depending on my mood.

In a couple of weeks we'll be spending Independence Day with relatives in their cabin in northern Vermont. The water comes from a 300 ft. deep well and is ice cold. It's incredibly refreshing to splash ice-cold water on your face at the end of your shave. I've thought of putting a towel in the freezer, but haven't followed through.

This is a touchy subject to most of my wet shaver friends, but it works for me. I have sensitive skin and it make a difference for me , don't get me wrong it is a bit rougher of a shave but good none the less. Will cold water shave only in the summer months, too hot!

I recently switched to an all cold water shave to help with irritation. I found that it really minimized my occasional razor burn (when I got sloppy) and has really paid dividends for me in after shave comfort since I recently aquired an R41. However. It did take about a week to get used to the cold slap in the morning.
