Just had a thought:

I live in central Florida, and thanks to our regularly warm climate, I normally cold-water shave. Recently, the scuttle seems to be making a bit of a comeback, but I'm curious:

Has anyone ever tried filling the scuttle with ice water for a cold-water shave? What were the results? I'd be willing to try it, but I'm reluctant to buy a scuttle in the off chance that it's not a desirable result.

I love it! Big Grin I have used water from the fridge since it's colder, I'll use it exactly like a normal hot water shave with the scuttle; leave it to sit and get cold while I shower/prep and empty it and then refill with more water and I'll use the fridge water to bloom and soak my brush. If you like cold shaves, personally speaking, I'd think you'd like this Smile

This would sound perfect for those living in very warm climates!
Unfortunately, here, in Vancouver, it never gets that warm in the mornings for me to even attempt this. Big Grin

Yep! I do it in summer, the scuttle gets a tray of ice cubes then water to fill the gaps. No need to empty and put in more cold water after you've prepped. Need a scuttle with a big spout though, I use a Dirty Bird 1.5 for that reason.

I havent done it yet, but I am planning on giving it a shot this summer when it is 105*...At least it's a dry heat...

I can't fit ice cubes in my scuttle, but Im gonna put cold water in it and put it in the fridge while my soap is blooming...

If you have an open spout could you just fill it half-way with water and freeze it overnight? Just put it back in the freezer after the shave.

I think I'd worry about cracking. I wuldn't want to do that....

Just put the scuttle itself in the freezer and then fill it with ice water when you are ready to go.

Why not just put cold water in the scuttle and put it in the refrigerator the night before your shave (or the morning before if you are a night shaver)? It would be cold with no fear of freezing cracking the scuttle.

This is the thought I am entertaining. No need to freeze, just cold water in the fridge. Brisk and refreshing is what I'm expecting...
