I just shaved this morning with Coates Cream, a discontinued product in the vein of other English creams. It used to be my go-to travel cream as the tubes are small and the product is predictable over a very wide range of water types. I'd taken to carrying other products on trips and frankly forgot all about Coates. This morning I was cleaning out a drawer and found a tube of Rose scented Coates and decided to give it a whirl. I chose a black wolf knot and face lathered up. I had forgotten how easy it was to build a lather but the real surprise was the slickness. WOW, I'd forgotten all about that feature. I'm decidedly a hard puck guy as most creams don't offer the residual slickness I enjoy but this cream satisfies. Three passes later with a Rockwell 6S 5 plate and I was DFS. I'll be shaving with the rest of this tube tomorrow and Saturday.
I wondered if Coates (discontinued) was still available from the guy in Texas and found it was. 15 new tubes coming! Like most of us I have way more soap than needed but I was out of Coates because it's so easy to lather and so protective I've given much of it away to first-timers to get started. I'll soon have another stock to give away and use. (It'll be my travel cream once again).
Scents are not the most amazing and the caps are easy to twist too hard and break but performance is top shelf. At 1.70 per tube its a dollar per oz. (1.7 oz tubes). I'm watching the mailbox!
