I just shaved this morning with Coates Cream, a discontinued product in the vein of other English creams. It used to be my go-to travel cream as the tubes are small and the product is predictable over a very wide range of water types. I'd taken to carrying other products on trips and frankly forgot all about Coates. This morning I was cleaning out a drawer and found a tube of Rose scented Coates and decided to give it a whirl. I chose a black wolf knot and face lathered up. I had forgotten how easy it was to build a lather but the real surprise was the slickness. WOW, I'd forgotten all about that feature. I'm decidedly a hard puck guy as most creams don't offer the residual slickness I enjoy but this cream satisfies. Three passes later with a Rockwell 6S 5 plate and I was DFS. I'll be shaving with the rest of this tube tomorrow and Saturday.

I wondered if Coates (discontinued) was still available from the guy in Texas and found it was. 15 new tubes coming! Like most of us I have way more soap than needed but I was out of Coates because it's so easy to lather and so protective I've given much of it away to first-timers to get started. I'll soon have another stock to give away and use. (It'll be my travel cream once again).

Scents are not the most amazing and the caps are easy to twist too hard and break but performance is top shelf. At 1.70 per tube its a dollar per oz. (1.7 oz tubes). I'm watching the mailbox!

I agree...this is one of the products that I have a lifetime supply of (but regrettably never use bc I just prefer using soaps)...
Regardless, I need to use these again!
My faves are: Lavender, Lime, and Tea Tree.

The lavender one was simply superb. As good as the T&H lavender one , which was sadly discontinued last year , for what I know. The Rose has such a pleasant scent and the Sandalwood is better than the TBOS and T&H but not as good as the Trumper Sandalwood (IMHO).The Limes and Almond are so and so for me.But the lather of all of them is very slick , kind of Castle Forbes creams.
Never tried the Tea Tree one but Mantic (Marc) told me , long time ago , on the B&B chat that it was one of his favorites.

I picked up my first Coates when you sold some of your lifetime supply.

Agree totally with your sandalwood assessment! Rose is certainly pleasant. I really like lime. And I'll find out if Marc's like for tea tree fits my tastes too as I have some coming. Lavender on this one isn't my cup of tea. (I love lavender)

Favorite lavender is Mikes Hungarian Lavender but Mickey Lees Jefferson Square hits the spot too. But when I don't want "in your face" lavender I reach for DR Harris lavender. Harris does subtle scents I really enjoy.
