For what it's worth, the difference between my EJ 89 and my EJ 89 clone is the real EJ's finish is flawless, even under the cap is finished and polished as well as the rest of the head. The clone's finish under the cap is rough and unrefined.Sorry that's all I got, hope it helps.

Funny thing is that EJ has actually talked about going after clones in court just last week according to one of their reps. I doubt they get any result though. China reproduces everything no matter what it is, and nobody can really enforce what is going on since it happens in China. They can stop them from shipping to the USA, but I have seen PING golf club knockoffs that look EXACTLY the same at 1/2 the price. Not sure of the quality, or if they play the same as original PING irons, but they are out there and people buy them.

The problem here is that everybody wants all of these items, and they continue to support the black market by actually buying them instead of buying from the original makers of these products. Money talks, and people would rather buy cheap **** than buy quality, and before you say, "That's just not true," just look at Walmart as a great example. Why would you buy from an American grocer when you can buy the same items form Walmart at 1/2 the price because it is produced in China by factories that pay 17 cents an hour and no bathroom breaks for 12 hour days? Because it is cheaper. Not saying that this right, but it is what it is. I won't set foot in Walmart myself. They actually use the government to subsidize their heath care plans.

honestly for the cost of a brand new ACTUAL ej89 why buy a clone? they can be found new for less than 30$ (under 27$ at amazon and other places) online imo no reason at all to buy a clone. buy the real thing and know its a real ej89 if that is what you want.

I have to applaude this second paragraph. I was pretty indifferent about WalMart, but after watching a documentary about them, my wife and I are boycotting WalMart with our wallet and not shopping there anymore. If you have no data cap on your internet and can watch videos without worry, and want to learn something you didnt know over the next 1 hr and 37 minutes. Watch this video. It will change the way you think. Its call "The high cost of low price"

** mod removal of video...it takes the discussion way too close to the political spectrum - something the forum rules forbid**

Aside from buying vintage to avoid poor clones, you can always buy the new repro Fat Handled Tech P&G will be selling through AOS.

Thanks for the great responses! I had bought an EJ off the BST and accidentally had an old knock off sent instead of the head. Just was wondering if there were any other ways besides the finish on how to tell if genuine parts are from the EJ/Muhle/Merkur besides buying directly from them.

But way to go in depth with the outsourcing of China. who knows what kind of working conditions they are in...not favorable, that's for sure.
