Chromebooks/Chrome OS

Yup, that's where I saw it, ketchuegrast. I have a very old version of Microsoft Office on my older iMac and really only use it for it's wonderful tool to produce labels in Word. Unfortunately, that version is not compatible with my newer iMac so I wish I could find a replacement for just that aspect of Word but I have never found anything else quite like it. For every other aspect of Word, Mac's Pages meets my needs on the iMac and I am sure Google Docs will do the same for my Chromebook.

I gotcha. Well, take a look at LibreOffice: http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libr...lang=en-US It may or may not meet your needs for labels on the newer iMac, but it's free, thus worth a try. Google Docs is good, but I would not think it's as powerful as Word or even LibreOffice.

I'll take a look at LibreOffice later, when I get home.  My needs for a word processor are pretty basic (except for those pesky labels ) so just the basics like bold, italics, underline, columns, and one or two other things are all I'll really need.

It will be a while before I get my hands on the Chromebook because shipping is supposed to be on the 11th of this month and then it's listed as seven day shipping.  I purchased it directly from Dell and this was their free shipping method.  Since I am not in a rush, I couldn't see paying extra for expedited shipping. I'll try to post my thoughts when I have had a chance to play with it.

0. I am extremely tech savvy
1. I would get a Chromebook myself if my requirements were like you.
2. Experience closer to use chrome browser. really.
3. Negatives, you can't do much outside browser without considerable modding and effort. Sometimes, battery life isn't great.
4. Advantages: you can do everything you can do using a browser, lightweight, cheap, not power hungry.
5. you can use a lot of android apps/similar. You can access photos in Google drive.

6. Finally, If you want I can find out what's good on market now, but can't suggest one right of the top of my head. (I usually do that for pretty much everyone I know)

I've had one for a couple of years now and if what he listed in his original post is all he needs a Chromebook will be fine.

The Dell Chromebook 13 7310 was waiting for me when I returned from visiting a friend back east.  I really haven't had a chance to play with it too much as I am still unpacking, going through the mail, food shopping, etc.  Some very very early thoughts: A) I went with a 13-inch screen, instead of my original thought of 11 or 12 inches, and I'm glad I did; B) Setting it up was very easy, made even easier with an already established Google account, which is needed to use the Chromebook; C) The styling is beautiful, in my opinion, though I would have preferred a more subtle Chromebook logo on the cover; D) Even though it is a non-glare screen, everything shows up crystal clear and in sharp focus; E) When it comes to weight, this is no Mac Book but does not feel as heavy as I was expecting; F) The type on the screen is smaller than I expected, though perfectly legible, and I don't know yet if it can be enlarged; G) I have to learn how to hook it up to my printer, which supposedly can handle a Chromebook.

As I said, I'm in the very early learning stages but, so far, I am more than pleased.  Here are a few unboxing photos:

Doug, I cannot wait. I'm hoping that some of the apps I have on my LG Android tablet and Samsung S5 phone will work on the Chromebook. The Dell Chromebook itself is perfect for my needs and I am enjoying it quite a bit.
