My wife’s Company Christmas party. Dinner doesn’t start till 10pm. Lol
A parade in town is blocking all traffic. What’s everybody doing for their parties?

Typically after the holidays we have a get together (we're all retired and friends, nothing by the company, no one would go to that, the company (SAPPI) was pure feces and treated us like something to be scraped off of ones shoe) for folks invited. Just friends/coworkers and the list is short; many times it's after both Christmas/New Years. On the holiday a few of us get together for the local Christmas dinner that the local churches put together at the local Elks hall. It's much easier than doing it oneself and not bad, and afterward we go back to our home for drinks and a movie. The attendees vary depending on who has what going on with family; not everyone does and I won't abide someone I know spending Christmas alone. Not on my watch.

On Christmas Day I shall be on a plane heading to Buffalo to visit a friend.  My friend visits with his brother’s family on Christmas Eve so he is free to pick me up at the airport and then we spend the evening at home catching up with each other’s lives.  Then, New Year’s Eve happens to be my birthday.  Neither of us wants to be on the road and, fortunately, my friend is a good cook so he makes me a nice birthday dinner and a friend of his comes over and she usually brings a birthday cake.  It’s a quiet and pleasant evening and I wouldn’t trade it for any big party. Smile

Freddy that sounds like heaven...how Christmas should be instead of “Dad, the (yet again) LL Bean shirts you got me don’t fit!”

Max, that made me laugh out loud.  Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year with your family.

Holidays spent with family and friends are just priceless Freddy. Enjoy them while you have them. Friends check out far too soon. I'm finding that out as we all age. (I'm doing my best to leave as many toys behind as possible for my widow to dispose of!)

Sorry, my age is showing. I don't give a rats behind about most Christmas "stuff" anymore. I cherish the enduring connections to people. I can do the "stuff" on my own and I know that the shirts will fit; the few I need. Now my adult toys... still acquiring but only I can make them happen. Sorry can't discuss it here due to the rules.

Another statement that made me chuckle.  In my case, it is my sister who would have to dispose of my toys (shaving gear, fountain pens, books, CDs, you get the picture).  Unfortunately for me, my sister has visited me on quite a few occasions and has seen my stash.  She has warned me that if I don't clean out and straighten out some of my stuff and, instead, leave it up to her after my passing, she will wake me from the dead and kill me properly.  (Um, I don't think she was joking. Confused )

I am basically a solitary person and enjoy it but have said that if I didn't have my family and friends to be with occasionally, to chat to on the phone, to send an e-mail photo from time to time, I would be a very unhappy person.  Enjoy the holidays, Brian. Smile

Self-employed, most of the time by an office that is overseas, so no Christmas party on the calendar for me. Nice to see what others are doing, though. (Christmas itself will be spent with my wife and her family.)

I'm retired now - retired being a euphemism for laid off in the oil downturn a couple of year's ago and being 57 now there's little likelihood of being rehired as an employee again so no company Christmas party for me anymore (thankfully) My wife's company did a small thing at a bar which I had no interest in going to so its pretty quiet while we wait for the kids to come home from university. We did, however, go to an a cappella quartet Christmas concert on Sunday evening (wife and mother in law) which was a lot of fun. A local group that has been performing for 20 years or so years that we used to take the kids to when they were smaller. Fun was had by all, especially all of the young children that made their way to the area in front of the stage for impromptu dancing. One of the members of the quartet also performed in another quartet to open the show. The fellow is the bass singer in the a cappella group so he gets little opportunity to display too much range but he's a talented instrumentalist also (clarinet, flute) so this opening act enabled him to display his talents. I was introduced to Jazz Manouche / Gipsy Swing / Hot Jazz which I really hadn't ever heard much of before. It was just an enjoyable evening.

Merry Christmas

Mark
