That is a good question. I found out on Friday that there may be some snafus with getting the packaging in on time, along with some other stuff, so there may be a delay. Mainly because I feel like it would be better to do it right rather than to find a discount place that would spit everything out for fast and cheap. Definitely learning some lessons when it comes to importing items, etc. Also, my day job has been just nuts, but I plan on leaving soon to concentrate on Chatillon Lux, so there's that.

For pricing, we're just about there. It is a bit more difficult as we will just be selling the shaving items through Declaration Grooming just because I have so much on my plate at the moment that we feel like it would be better to go about it that way to make sure people receive all the items at the same time and as quickly as possible. Declaration will also be selling the Parfum Extrait, but that one I will be also selling, as well, plus I will be sending it out to retailers since it is permanent.

I can say that the Parfum Extrait, which expands upon the basic Santal Auster sandalwood accord to include oud, opoponax, styrax, amyris and patchouli, will be $90. It contains 5% natural sandalwood oil that is sustainably and responsibly harvested and is also similar to mysore sandalwood, the richest and most sought after variant in sandalwood oils. It will be at 40% concentration.

The shaving-product scent (aka straight sandalwood accord) of Santal Auster will also contain real sandalwood essential oil, although I don't remember the percentage off the top of my head. Because of the very, very high cost of the raw scent materials used we wouldn't be able to put the extrait accord in shaving products and keep it in the non-astronomical level, but the shaving-product accord will still contain 3% sandalwood essential oil.

We'll figure out the shave product prices once we find a happy medium between people getting outraged about the price and us losing our asses on the products because it is so expensive to make. It's a bit of a no-win situation, but I am super happy with how the modified scent in both the shaving accord and the extrait have turned out. This release was put together to mark the launch of the Santal Auster Parfums line, however, which is meant to explore the possibilities of scent creation without having to worry about budget constraints as much. So I'm sure no matter what not there will be some angry emails fired off about the prices, but for the raw material cost and the R&D costs over the past year, it really adds up.

Very helpful, Shawn. Do you plan to use the same bottle/spout for the Parfum as you use for the EdTs? (By the way, I'm very happy with my three current CL EdTs.) Two ounces? If so, I'm in, even at $90.

P.S. Congrats on your new day job! Great news for all of us.

The extrait will be avialable through retailers, but I believe the shaving products will only be through Declaration Grooming in the United States.

First of all, thanks! It's a little scary and a lot exciting. I feel like I've been held back from doing all the stuff I think I could have been doing by the job. So hopefully this means I can keep doing cooler things.

The size of the extrait is 30 mL, but it still has almost as much fragrance as would be in the EdTs. And look up the prices of oud and natural sandalwood essential oil and you'll get a good idea of where the costs come from.

Edit: the bottles are all new. They are cylinders with crimp top pumps (aka, you can't unscrew them) and nicer caps, plus they'll have boxes with inserts designed specifically for this bottle. Should be much nicer. Had to import them from Europe because there just aren't a ton of great options for the real-deal holyfield bottles domestically.

Both Top of the Chain and Canadian Blade Co. will be stocking the Chatillon Lux products, I believe.

hawns, why the crimped bottle top and not the screw top?  I have had the sprayer on both types go bad (rarely, but it does happen).  At least with the screw top I can still get to my product.  With the crimped top, I’m screwed. (Pun intended. Tongue)

Definitely there are reasons the screw tops can be nice, and they will remain on the Chatillon Lux Provisions line of EdTs, but the crimp tops are good for a few reasons. They are more secure and less likely to unscrew during shipping or jostling. They are tamper proof, which is nice for retailers. Most fragrance companies use crimp tops, and so it's more likely for potential customers unfamiliar with my brand to take the fragrance seriously. And finally, most fragrance bottles are not sold with screw tops, so it's mostly a necessity if I wanted to branch out and purchase different bottle designs.

By security do you mean against leakage or having someone return a bottle saying its unsatisfactory and finding that your lovely EDT has been poured out and replaced with a similar looking liquid? If they'd do it with wine they'd do it with EDT.

I think that's the worry retailers might have, and maybe it's something I may have to worry about in the future, but I don't really see it happening. Mainly security against leakage is what I'm worried about. Putting the caps on the bottles and including the spray tops separate has been a good solution, but making it leak-proof when the stuff in the bottle is so expensive to make is definitely a concern for me.
