I guess there is a bit of things to think about. There are other razors that are interesting to me...especially in this price class like a Henson.
I found a video that shows the exact two things I was describing:

But after the first pass he remarks what I have myself noted after using only the Lvl 4 plate: it's deceivingly efficient while being incredibly smooth (watch the whole next 2 min):

It's what still makes the Era completely worthwhile for me - perhaps the best 3 piece razor I currently own - despite those shortcomings.

Would be interesting to hear Blackland Razors thoughts on this, also to see if they can possibly improve the tolerances of the blade positioning and handle wiggle.

We've addressed and resolved this by tweaking the top cap slightly.

Has that tweak been incorporated into all the razors/pieces that are currently being shipped, or is there a remaining batch without the tweak?

Dang we're in a Charcoal Goods thread and we've gone from the topic, to the Overlander, and now the Blackland razors.

I guess no one moderates this board too strongly.

I like to open a thread to read the topic it is titled to be about.

Obviously YMMV.

I've seen a thread where the original poster busted people's chops pretty sternly for getting off track. I did much care for that either.
I sure don't like the new charcoal goods handles, and they're probably okay but I prefer the old models

(Off topic)

Yeah, I just start another thread if I'm a way off topic, and want to get a dialogue going. If there's any interest that usually yields more results IME.

The Overlander has a wee bit of drag and a bead blasted finish and I can get a smooth, comfortable, close shave every day without irritation. The two complaints I have about it are probably related - the bead blasted finish and the small amount of drag.  The superlative shaves I get with it as a daily shaver more than make up for it.

The Overlander with a CG finish might be a grail razor for me.

Interesting the guy in the video said it the exact opposite (less aggressive and more efficient - which is why it peaked my interest). Go figure.

How does the ATG compare? I don't think I have used a razor where the ATG is so comfortable than with my Overlander. Its probably the single most deciding factor for me.

The most sensitive area for me is on my neck and I find the Overlander to be smooth and comfortable in that regard as well.  When I start to feel irritation from CG it's ATG on my neck.

Do you attribute the difference to blade feel or blade control/clamping?

yes, let's get this thread back on topic.

I saw that the above post about the era have been linked over in the era thread.

Thank you andrewjs18. This was a definite thread hijack and I appreciate you getting it back on track.
