Right I seen this I think to my personal knowledge buying CG’s it’s not a bad price if it’s over $650 USD ok sure it’s getting out of hand but $450 it’s reasonable to my view personally…

My CG Gen 2 Lvl3 I payed $350 USD non polished not to be in near state the way it came in…my polish on it $185 USD a bit more as it requires more time I’m asking $385 USD it’s more than fair pretty much half of the cost of my polish job!!

Things like this that are highly sought sometime if we want it Badly we unfortunately pay price for it vise versa…

Anybody knowing anything regarding the financial and temporal investment involved in polishing would not argue you asking too much for such a high level polish on that razor. Further, costs of materials to undertake a first class polish have risen significantly in just the past weeks based on catalogues from tooling suppliers. 

You insult your craftsmanship by even engaging in a conversation regarding the worth. For those of us favouring polished razors, we are well aware of the costs and benefits: for those not, they are perfectly in their rights to have no interest.

It is troubling observing people wanting highly value added items complaining when it time to fairly compensate the artisan for their life long skills, hard work and supplies - many times when the very people complaining are highly remunerated for their skills and efforts.

I TOTALLY AGREE, the cost, the art and the talent must be fractured in.

AlanH81 you do great work with amazing results. If you want to sell it and make money then why not. Our society (or at least most on the board) is market driven so if you can make money on it then that’s what is going on. If people don’t want to pay the “going rates” they either don’t buy or, unfortunately, just whine. I suspect the same goes for flippers and their customers.

So getting back on topic Charcoal Goods made beautiful art with their razors and AlanH81 does what he does by polishing them to a degree that others admire and may even pay for. Great hobby for all.

I’m sorry to hear Brian’s news, but wish him the absolute best. We had hoped to attend a Mariners game when he lived in my greater “neighborhood,” but covid intervened and he moved to another nice neighborhood. My two first generation Level 3s are my two favorite razors.

Anybody have experience with the lvl 1? Curious if its any good. I have never used it.

I have used all of the other plates (Everyday, 2, 3). Supposedly the lvl 1 is milder than the Everyday.

Having tried the first gen Level 2 SB, I would say the 1 would provide a pretty decent and smooth shave
that may last just a couple hours less than the Lvl 2.

Gen 1 Lvl1 is where “CG is at” very mild and smooth shaver!! Highly Reccomend!

I always wanted one or two of these razors but they were always out of my reach for one reason or another. Of course covid did not help at all but overall he left a great legacy within the wet shaving community and wish him well with all his future endeavors in life.

Absolutely they will be more and more harder to find even spite of it’s asking cost but that’s another subject…

Certainly Gen 1 for me personally is where is CG is at but again YMMV..

I’m happy what I got back then and luckily I found my lost set Gen1 Lv2 SS

Does anyone have the specs on the levels for exposure and gap?  Probably a good place to post it.
