I just received from rawfox1 for those keeping score at home. I have the original plate and always wanted something more (don't we all about so many things) and looking forward to the ++ plate.

I had another shave this morning with the ++ plate and a Red Israeli Personna Platinum Chrome on it's second shave. I have been more confident with more frequent shaves. I have been shaving every two to three days which is still a bit "raw" for my facial skin although I have enough beard to shave. The results this morning and last shave before were great as I tried a bit different 1st and 2nd pass direction. For my first pass, I go across the growth and shave the face and jaw from ear to nose. That's pretty close to across grain for my beard mapping, but I can't fully go across the grain on my lower neck so I relather and go against the grain on everything. My neck is something that I think is easier to remove evenly but my facial beard is harder to cut evenly and close. The Carbon razor is helping with more consistent shaves. The last couple shaves I have been using both the steep, ride the cap angle as well as shallow, on the base plate angle. I like how they both feel and they have been easy to find and maintain while shaving. It has been pretty intuitive with me so far and I am toying with the idea of getting a R2 handle. The blades have been fun to try in both base plates (have the 0.68 as well). Looking forward to putting in a couple vintage blades in the Carbon razor for some testing but I could use this razor for a good while and be happy.

To begin the my review of the Carbon + and ++ plates I decided to use my Carbon standard plate as a reference point. When opening the goody box I did notice the polish is better than the earlier release I have. As my goal is to see if I want to acquire a more aggressive Carbon plate I decided to stick with my cap and Ti handle. I have not used my Carbon in a month or so as I have been primarily using my WM 1.25 and Diamondback 2020 as they provide my bookends of perceived efficiency with the WM being my daily razor and the DB when I want a little less presence. Last week I was fortunate enough to try the H&S 17-4 SB and OC razors. Although we did not gel they are beautiful instruments.

Sometimes I need to bench one of the players in order to appreciate them. Not sure why it went to the bullpen. I suspect it was because I only want 2 razors on the shelf and the WM and DB do provide a closer shave and a serious pleasure to use. Yesterdays shave with the standard plate was a pleasant reminder of how good the Carbon is. Smooth, nimble and provides a Level 1 BBS. Used a fresh Wizamet and Ethos Lavender soap - a great combo of product. This morning I switched to the + plate with GD Etereo. As expected, a little gain in efficiency and still smooth but still seeking more efficiency. Obviously, tomorrow the ++ is up at bat and I am really looking forward to seeing how much "more" it is. Something tells me a new plate will be on the way. Yes, I did sign up for the Carbon TI pass around....CC, prepare thyself.

The H&S 17-4 SB is indeed gorgeous, and the head very much it reminds me of the Carbon DX. I read a couple of people in the pass-around felt there was too much blade feel. Do you mind also sharing your comparative thoughts on this versus the Carbon DX standard and + plates? I have the latter two from Carbon and am trying to get a sense of whether I should try to procure an H&S 17-4 ... love the head but not so much the handle.

The H&S 17-4 felt blade forward and the most challenging passes were AGT. Explored all the angles, rode the cap, rode the bar and somewhere in between. Incredible looking razor and the handle will surprise you as I found it had excellent grip and was very comfortable to use despite my initial reaction that the fluted end was not for me. I did post a review of my experience the other day on DFS. I prefer the + Carbon SS blade for being comfy in all passes - WTG, XTG and AGT which is very important to me while still being efficient.  One of the many ways I judge a razor is by feel. Sometimes you just know with the first pass that it is a winner or not. I will be the first to say there is a learning curve with any new tool but after a week, for me at least, it is either going to be a keeper or not. There are too many options to struggle with something that doesn't rock your world.

Thanks. This is really helpful. I share similarly positive views as you on the standard and + plates, so I suspect your comments on the H&S 17-4 may apply to me as well. Looking forward to your experience with the ++. Given the comments I've seen so far on the limited blade exposure, I'm wondering if it will be smooth ... or too mild.

This mornings take on the ++ plate. The feel was noticeably different from the standard and + plates specifically exhibiting more presence and increased efficiency while remaining very smooth and comfy. This is the first plate where I have experienced the aural feedback as distinct and loud, relatively speaking, with every stroke be it WTG for pass 1and XTG for pass 2. Very, very nice real time feedback. Pass 3 going AGT was also a joy. There is blade feel but not enough to raise concerns if that is not your thing. Like all the Carbon plates they are capable speed shaving (ex. ford vs. ferrari @ 7,000 rpm's) or provide a leisurely cruise just to enjoy the moment. Before passing on to the next contestant I will be rotating between + and ++ plates over the next few days to determine which one takes the checkered flag. Good work Carbon.
