First, Sean CarbonShavingCo.  is just a pleasure to deal with and is an all-around class act. Thank you for making this wonderful razor available to the community. 

I signed up for this pass-around for two reasons. The first was to figure out which plate(s) I would enjoy using the most in order to figure out which to buy. The second was to get a bit more experience with titanium vs. stainless steel to understand my preference there better. 

As it happens, while I was waiting for my number to come up, and in a moment of weakness - I purchased the 316L with the original plate. I absolutely love this razor. So, I had some experience with this particular plate before getting this pass around, and was curious to compare this plate to the +, ++, and -. 

Here are my thoughts:

• The R2 Handle is wonderful. It is very ergonomic and I believe it looks good also. It is also a bit different from a more traditionally designed handle, and that is part of the reason I enjoy using it. If all razors were similar, it would defeat the purpose of having multiple razors. The carbon fiber handle is also quite a design marvel. It is extremely light - likely the lightest handle on the market - and also extremely comfortable to use. Overall, I slightly preferred the R2 handle, but enjoyed both. 
  
• The original plate has a .68mm gap and positive exposure. For me, this is one of the most comfortable and fun-to-shave with razor heads I have ever used. It is a pleasure to use and is outstanding in my opinion. I enjoy the positive blade exposure but the design is such that it is not too aggressive. And I felt the aggressiveness can be dialed up or down by riding the cap vs. the bar. 
  
• The + plate has a gap of .88mm and less blade exposure than the original. Unsurprisingly, I found this to be a hybrid between the original and the ++ in terms of feel.
  
• The ++ has 1.08mm gap and less exposure than the +. I found this blade to be exceptionally comfortable. It is “smoother” than the original and the +. For those that like a smooth razor with less blade feel, the ++ will be a winner. 
  
• The - plate has a .71 gap and a similar gap to the ++. For those that like a milder shave this one will be a winner. 
  
• As to the material, for me the distinction between the titanium and stainless steel, at its essence, comes down to weight preference. The titanium is extremely light and I find it easier to apply a lighter touch when using it. I like both 316L and titanium to be honest; one is not better than the other in my book. It just comes down to personal preference with respect to weight.
  

One idea for a future plate for Sean might be a higher gapped plate (similar to ++) with an exposure similar to the original plate. I would think there would be significant interest for this construct.

In summary, Sean has created an outstanding razor with a plate that will appeal to virtually any wetshaver. I admire Sean’s innovation and believe he has brought an outstanding razor to our market.

Received Carbon Ti late today. Already shaved this morning, so it will be Sunday for my first shave. There are a lot of plates to try! Will post progress reviews once I get started.

I have been out of the loop on this pass around. The - plate sounds fantastic! I checked the website and didn’t see it for sale. Does anyone know if it will go into production? I have the original setup and would love to add this plate.

It’s a prototype but if Sean CarbonShavingCo.  gets positive feedback I think he may make it available for purchase. He can elaborate further.

You are correct about the "-" plate being a prototype...I only made a few of these to get feedback. Early response has been good for those seeking a milder shave experience. I am planning to do a small run of these...one use case that came up was for head shavers, which I never really thought of(not being a head shaver).

Some notes about the image:

1) The dotted or dashed lines represent what I have seen referred to as the "Shave plane"(Credit: @ShavingByTheNumbers) or the path the razor runs in relation to the skin. This could also be referred to as the "skin plane" or the theoretical plane of the skin

2) I have noted the blade (although slightly exaggerated in scale)

3) The red dots represent the end of the horizontal section of the base plates, where blade gap is measured.

Once you get time, share your thoughts on the razor, whether positive or negative. Please give the razor a quick bath in alcohol or something similar when you receive it and before sending it out.
