I admire the creative engineering and work-arounds among this crowd. As I’m a philosophy major without any engineering skills, I’m grateful that the original Paradigm 17-4 in my den works just fine without modification. I’m sure the new version of the Asylum will too.

Looks like some machines finished versions are up for sale. Polished in 5 weeks it says.

Is this supposed to be similar to the Diamondback in efficiency? I did see it's listed as negative exposure, leads me to think it'll be very mild.

Negative exposure usually means mild in the way of blade feel. Shaving quality should not be mistaken for mildness. There are many razors that are "very mild" but can be extremely efficient when shaving. I was one of those folks that hacked the original Asylum mistake razor and it turned out to be an efficient shaver without much blade feel. I also have a Paradigm Ti2 which has the same head geometry as the 17-4, and it also is a very efficient shaver without much blade feel. I previously owned the Diamondback but got rid of it early because the Ti2 shaved better. I look for great things with the Asylum McMurphy.

Mild is what I was thinking also

Too bad after all the drama that the razor is very mild and has a negative blade exposure. The remarks also says you need a very steep angle in order to get an efficient shave. For someone who prefers very mild razors this is perfect. 17/4 stainless steel at a decent price.

They're up. I passed. The pictures, especially from the side view look shockingly unfinished. Very sharp at the edges and corners. This may be a great deal for those who do their own polishing. (*coughAlaincough*)

EDIT: The pictures posted are indeed unpolished. They're the same pictures shared a few days ago in the TSN forums, so presumably they will be finished further before shipping. Not sure why the finished version wouldn't be posted. Could be a really good buy.

$225 for machining like this? Apparently I’m not the only one who isn’t into it.

It's sharp and it cuts. I like it...

I'm not in on the Mcmurphy 17-4 and I hope it was just a quick mock up to get a picture taken to present it to those that are in on it and there is still a clean up pass that is yet to be performed but, honestly it's a bit disconcerting if that's close to being the final rendition.

Nevertheless, I do hope it's a good one for those that are looking for a quality mild razor in 17-4 alloy......

Yeah I hope that's not the final version, that's pretty rough. I'd like to see how people feel about the shave, but I'd be surprised if I end up ordering even the polished version at this point.
