j-mt, i'm just curious but why duck fat rather than beef? Does it have superior properties for moisturizing, etc?

The fatty acid profile of duck fat is like a hybrid of olive oil and beef tallow. Here's a (simplistic) breakdown:

Conditioning; Stability (1 - 10 Scale)

Olive Oil: 8; 2
Duck: 6; 4
Beef: 4; 5

Where olive oil is supremely conditioning (seriously, try some castile soap if you haven't), it lacks the fatty acids to produce a harder bar with a stable lather. The latter is why it's generally not used in shave soap. Beef tallow has some of the same conditioning fatty acids as olive oil, but also has the fatty acids necessary for hardness and stability. Duck fat falls in between them both in each category.

EDIT: Since this might get asked, on the same scale:

Coconut: 1; 1

Remember, this is a pretty simplistic way to look at it. But it's relevant in the perceived difference in vegan vs. tallow shave soaps.

Thanks j-mt...I doubt I ever get an opportunity to try and make a shave soap but if I do, I'll steer clear of olive and coconut oil Smile

Good luck to you and congrats on the birth of your child!

I checked semi-regularly on the website only to find nothing not the website. It turns out announcements are made on "social media". So I missed out in July for the first scent. OK, fine. My bad. I don't do social media but since July I checked Every day.

On 9/20 I do my daily checking and see some will be released 9/21 at 8PM CST. Finally.

I patiently wait until 8 PM CST but only had my phone with me. Exactly at 8 PM I see soap is available. And i started typing in my info. Made one typo (hard to use a phone for anything) and hit submit.

Angry Sold out. What? I look at the clock at its 8:09 PM and sold out.

Round 2

North York available at 12:00 CST 1/10/17.

Hit reload until it became available. Typed in the information on a computer, not a phone, clicked submit at 12:02 PM and ... sold out. I could not type the information in any faster than 120 seconds.

There will be no Round 3.  I guess this is only Buffies I will be having. That's cool. There are plenty of other stuff out there.

Same here, sold out in under two min. Wish they would maybe make a little more next time. I mean if it would have been 3 min I think I would have actually been able to get a tub!

I feel the same way though, waaaay too many other great soaps that are readily available to worry about not getting this one.

I didn't even try because the scent profile did not appeal to me. I don't typically like "gourmand" type scents. But kudos to all who were able to get some.

grim, I’m kind of in the same boat, but I gave up even sooner than you did. After adding the soap to the cart, I then looked at the total with shipping, and said to myself: “Wait a minute here. I have too much soap already, with even more on its way.” The purchase just didn’t seem justified to me at this time.

Eventually, though, I hope to try this soap. And I think it’s great that Justin, who I believe produces this soap mainly as a hobby, is able to share his obvious talent with others from time to time.

Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”

Prior to the discussion in this thread, I only viewed the vendor as one of many other vendors trying to sell their wares. But since we have the opportunity here to discuss things with company owners, I understand his POV. It's a side thing, not a priority, and batches are small. That's fine with me. But I give up now. Two shots, going way out of my way, are enough.

I'm not complaining. It is what it is. Life goes on.

WOW - I had the EXACT same thought. I got the thing in the cart, saw the shipping, saw the 3.5 oz and was doing the math in my head (rounded off of course) and see now, since there was no "spend so many $$ and shipping is free" option that the cost is $7.71/oz.

At $7.71/oz is in Klar range, and that's quintuple milled soap. That almost as expensive as Nuavia, shipped from Italy, and MORE expensive than Boellis Panama 1924, also shipped from Italy. Those are high standards to meet and Wish everyone who uses it well.

Have never used if before. I was lucky enough to score a tub. I will report back once I use it.
