it was about process improvement.

How do you improve past selling out 100% of product immediately?  j-mt's level of demand is up there with wolfman and varlet.  Do those guys need to make it more obvious when spots open up on the waiting list?   No, because there's far more demand than their limited capacity to produce as is.

If you want to help someone sell more of their product more quickly (and I believe you do) talk to anyone who actually keeps soap in stock and would benefit from increased sales.  There's tons of artisans who aren't selling out and are trying to make it their full time job.  If you really want to find an audience for your efforts you should look in their direction.

What are all those full time artisans thinking by keeping their products in stock? If only they all adopted the small batch model so that we could all see the demand. My favorite artisans must be hurting, especially the two that have over 40 scents in stock at all times.

In my mind, this thread has outlived its useful life.

Justin from Bufflehead has clearly laid out his priorities with his wife and child being first and his day job being second. Making and selling soap is further down the list.

At the end of the day, this is a soap that will be available when he has a chance to make it. The comments about process and running a business are all fine, though it takes time and effort to do that. While I would love to have some Bufflehead soap, I appreciate that his priority is his family followed by a job that pays the bills.

I'll also say that getting websites to correctly send alerts, etc... is time consuming.

In short, what I'm saying is that accepting and respecting the fact that his family and current career are the priority is the best way to move forward.

You're probably right. I want to be clear that my post above was not intended as a shot at Bufflehead by any means.

I meant other artisans would actually benefit from increased sales, because they actually want to sell in increasing volume, as represented by their continuous production. If OP wants to get involved and help someone grow their business, he should work with someone who actually wants to grow their business. One soapmaker is happy with his job and his minimal commitment to soapmaking, while another quit his job and is trying to make soapmaking his full time work. Who do you think is more receptive to advice on business growth?

I'm not saying limited batch is better I'm saying limited batch has no capacity to benefit from "improved business tactics" because you can't do better than a sellout. j-mt doesn't even care about maximum profit, if he did he would raise his prices and wouldn't wholesale any tubs to ME for canadian shavers.

I think there has been some productive stuff in this thread, actually.

Justin, I think a lot of what you have set up around this hobby looks very professional. Do you hope that it could become something more than a hobby? A lot of great businesses start as hobbies.

@j-mt you've done well, responded appropriately, and obviously care. I wish you well. Kudos to you.

I should have been more clear. I would never "join" any social media to check advertising"

You still dont get it and this is pointless. Just as LPL is now considering outsourcing production, anything that starts small can turn big.

Thinking only of today is not having vision. People without vision are doomed to live forever in the current without imagining what "could be". Look ahead. Think ahead.

andrewjs18  this thread is over. Nothing further productive will come of it. I sought to help improve and j-mt has acknowledged it.

I don't have the time or energy to take Bufflehead to full time, but that doesn't mean I don't want it to grow. I've actually offered a few people a piece of the company with the intention of making it more widely available. And it's funny. In my experience, the vast majority of people that want to be an "entrepreneur" have no motivation or drive to do the actual work to become one.

Funny this thread has actually piqued my interest in the duck fat again, haha. j-mt did you say another batch would be ready in another month or so? What scent or scents will it be? Fletcher sounds like a really nice one.

I feel like the vendor handled this thread very well honestly.

I should have some available this month. I will be out of town this weekend, next week, and next weekend, so it won't be until sometime after I return.

I will be updating the product page with a new soap listing sometime this week if you'd like to read through the accord. It will be the next batch released.
