Blutt BR-1 Safety Razor - Made in Switzerland

What a wonderful razor, it is really well made and has Swiss precision. Everything fits so well and very tight tolerances. I really do like the very slim straight bar. Perfect balance and the 1.20 is perfect for my beard growth. 

I would put the 1.20 on par with CG level 2 efficiency wise, but a tad smoother with less blade feel. I took the advise of my good friend AlanH81 recommendation to try out the Blutt and he was spot on. I’m really happy with the 1.20, perfect blend of efficiency and smoothness. With a Kai it achieves the aggression I looked for and instantly can be in my top 5 list. 

Shaving wise , angle is very easy to find, intuitive. Across the grain is the money pass for this razor. 
In my observation, I noticed that the razor glides sideways so smoothly and precise, really like no other razor. Mustache area is super easy to buff and gets really smooth. Good grip and like the handle.
 
Highly recommended, at first thought the price was way to high, but it justified it by the craftsmanship and the quality of the shave. Maybe Kai (1) and Vespers Omnibus had something to do with it. Long story short, this is a World class Razor.

I have all 4 plates and would agree that 086 is somewhere between CG Lv1 and Lv2.
As I understand, Blutt reduces blade exposure while gap increases. With this, he maintains a smooth facefeel while efficency gets higher.

Where does the 1.20 plate fall as far as efficiency?

For me, the Blutt 120 plate is between CG Lv2 and Lv3 efficency wise. I agree that this plate i beautiful smooth with only a small amount of blade feel.

Glad you like it   knowing my self I’m not perfect but when I recomend something I’m spot on for it either it’s been tested, reviewed and I personally wouldn’t dish out money if it wasn’t worth hype.

Blutt is really excellent razor overall and amazing shaver, I like the head of razor how it’s design and sleek yet it’s tight tolerances.

Definitely it’s worth having one in den

Can someone tell me if the 1.20 plate comes close to the Blackbird? I know it is difficult to top the efficiency of the BB ,but I am looking for something in "that direction" without the feeling of the BB .

This thread has been quiet for too long so let me add my own feelings about the Blutt now that I bought one from the 2022 batch and have used it for a while. I bought mine with the 0.99 and 1.20 plates. I find this a really excellent razor for me with the 1.20 plate, and I think I would put it in my top five razors. I really like using it and I tend to pick it up first when I want a reliably easy, close, long-lasting shave with no fuss or likelihood of irritation.

The 0.99 plate (which I tried first) was not right for me - nothing wrong with it, it was ok, but it just didn’t give me enough efficiency (as someone who doesn’t shave daily and values a long-lasting shave) and I thought the Karve Overlander was streets ahead of it, giving me significantly longer lasting shaves, being smoother, and having the amazing quality of never irritating even if I am tempted to overshave - even a lot. The 0.99 or 0.86 might be perfect for others, though I would still query whether they might like the Overlander even more.

So I came to the 1.20 plate with an expectation that this razor wasn’t all that special, and it won me back over. At the 1.20 gap I get high efficiency, long-lasting shaves, and with a level of relative smoothness that only my very best high efficiency razors can match. I have razors that can give me an even longer-lasting shave, but (with the sole exception of my Rocnel Sailors) these do not feel as smooth as the 1.20 gap Blutt, and anyway the difference in shave duration is small and not really worth any loss of comfort. I think this is one of the best feeling and performing high efficiency razors, with the 1.20 plate.

It’s a simple, clean looking razor, not remarkable looking, good grip, good balance, feels light and nimble to me, nice to hold. And I think that’s the point of the design, judging by the brand name. Simple, clean, light - designed to function well, not for show.

The finish is well-executed and neat, but nothing exceptional. Build quality is up there with the very best, which you can feel when assembling and dismantling the razor. I don’t care in the slightest that it was made in Switzerland - I think a CNC machine works the same whichever country you put it or the guys who operate the equipment in. But this is very well made all the same.

I think you’re on the right track, based on my experience with these razors. The Blutt with 1.20 plate should be close enough to the Blackbird in efficiency to satisfy you, and it feels a good deal smoother. I think you’re looking for the same things as me in a razor.

Thank you for the review, I was looking at the .99 but with the feedback that the 1.20 is in the ballpark of the Blackbird I will go that way

Totally agree have both .99 and 1.2.  The higher gap feels every bit as safe with a slight uptick in efficiency. Both are autodrive razors for me.

I get a completely smooth shave every time that lasts 12 hours before I start to feel stubble. That’s without any irritation, and with some, but not excessive buffing needed. That’s the level of efficiency I look for, ideally. I have some razors that can get me the same with sometimes less buffing, and occasionally slightly longer lasting, but the Blutt does it more smoothly. So it meets my standards for what I consider a highly efficient shaver, and it is a pleasant and calm shave. The other razors I have that match or beat it for efficiency are the Rocnel Sailor, Blackland Blackbird, Blackland Tradere OC, Timeless 0.5 Slim, Timeless 0.78 Bronze, but only the Sailor can exceed the efficiency of the Blutt AND simultaneously match it for smoothness. I hate to say that my Blutt 1.20 performs overall a bit better than my Tradere OC, because I love that razor so much, but I think it honestly does, a bit.

The 12 hour figure is obviously my personal benchmark, for the way I shave and the rate my hair grows. For comparison, my Karve Overlander shaves last 8-9 hours - which I am very satisfied with given how much milder that razor feels. The Blutt has some blade feel and a big gap, so it isn’t like the Overlander, but it is smooth for what it is. I get 8-10 hours from my Wolfman WR2 1.35, so the Blutt is more efficient for me than that, and the Blutt is more natural to shave with whereas I need a very steep angle and a super-light touch to get the best shave from my Wolfman and not feel too much blade.

The longest I’ve achieved was 15 hours with my Sailor, and that was a memorable shave that left my skin feeling almost untouched. I’m always very happy if I get 12 hours, and that’s why I like the Blutt 1.20 so much.

As I and Cornbread suggested, I found the 0.99 plate wasn’t as efficient as this and it didn’t feel any smoother than the 1.20 to me. So it didn’t seem like such a good proposition if I can get a longer lasting shave from the Overlander and get so much more smoothness at the same time.

Daily shavers (which I am not) may have a completely different calculus and criteria than mine.
