Blades: Remove after every shave?

Very interesting!! I take the blade out, dry it and the razor and replace the blade. I leave a small gap rather than tightening the head completely. I don't do any of this for the blade, it is all about my razors and getting them dry after a shave.  My DE razors are all vintage and in collectible condition so I don't want any water remaining after a shave. OK, I'm an anal retentive

Isn't anal-retentive hyphenated?

I posted some vintage razor care and maintenance tips last year that I received from Chris at RazorPlate concerning the razors I had just had replated. I think Chris' advice is good practice for any razor that you want to keep looking good and working well for years to come. Performing these little tasks after each shave doesn't add more than 2-3 minutes to your shave time and in my opinion its time well spent. But then again, I'm the guy who thinks anal-retentive should be hyphenated!

I guess I am too. I rinse, clean and thoroughly dry all my razors immediately after I use them. Then I use a Q-tip to get in between the studs on the cap and the slots on the base of my 3 piece razors and all the little corners and crevices of my TTOs. It is a rare day when I need to soak my razors in hot, soapy water. They all look awesome, all the time. :-)

I never really thought about removing and cleaning a blade after each use. I don't really think about germs as brand new wrapped blades are not sterile so why would I worry about one which was used only on me?

When I rotated my razors (non straights obviously) I would use a razor for 3 shaves and remove the blade, dispose of it, clean the razor and move to the next item in the rotation. Currently the only safety razor I seem to be using is my OneBlade and I use the Feather blade for two shaves. Pop a new blade in, shave, rinse when done, give it a good shake and pop it on its stand. Next day I see the blade is in it so I know this is the second shave, I shave, rinse razor when done, remove and dispose of the blade and re-rinse and dry the razor. It's back on the stand with no blade in it so I know to restart the process all over again.

I've honestly left Feather AC blades an my Kia Excelia for months without any use and no issues when grabbing it for the next use, same with my Feather DX.

its the only way to go. gotta get all the crap out of the internals of the razor. rather hard to get a decent shave when you have a few days worth of crappy residue dried on the blade edge.

This topic seems as polarizing now as it was when we first started the thread a year ago - I suggest that the dedicate no camp at least occasionally open the razor after their shave to see whats there. You might switch.

while I don't remove my blades, I did unscrew the head on my ATT M1 Calypso tonight to clear away some shaving soap that was up under the blade.

Have to clean the razor after every shave and rinse the blade (put it off to the side). I'm hardwired to do this.

I unscrew well enough to flush everything out they reassemble and dry. After a few uses when I am going to discard the blade is when the whole razor gets disassembled and cleaned with a toothbrush and dawn dish detergent.
